Lalala. I'm just posting to move this one up a bit since tomorrow is July (how did that happen??).

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) I will think about this one

Rita Webb (ritawebb) | 183 comments So which day in July is the Father/Daughter Take-a-Walk Day? I have 3 daughters, and I'll send them and their daddy out of the house.

June went by WAY too fast!

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy Definitely. July is going to be tough. I'm mentally thinking through my bookshelf right now. I think there are way too many challenges going on for me right now. LOL.

I just made sure a couple I read in July for Angela's challenge fit the monthly challenge as well. It is like double dipping! :)

Too many challenges to fit books into! I know you're working on the UTBG too. Ay carumba! :)

message 11: by Kellee (last edited Jul 04, 2010 01:30PM) (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Angela,

It is working out pretty well actually :) I just multi-challenged :P

I plan on reading 17 UTBG and 16 monthly challenge books (some overlapped) all within the reading challenge #5 (where I have 40 books scheduled).

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Completed Tasks: July

Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson 7/4/10

Father/Daughter theme. He is a preacher (of a religion that I couldn't put my finger on) & she has no faith. Also, he puts something on her in the book that she hates, but really changes her.

Mandy (mldavisreads) | 210 comments For July I read A Swift Pure Cry which is a father/daughter story set in Ireland. The mother has passed and the father becomes an alcoholic, so the oldest daughter becomes a surrogate mother to the two younger siblings. Heartbreaking but beautiful story.

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I read The Carbon Diaries 2015 which has an interesting relationship between Laura and her dad. It's dystopian so he suddenly reverts into backyard farmer man because he can't get a job and her mom leaves for a break from it all, leaving her to deal with her nutty dad. It's quite an interesting story.

What is this book of Hopkins's about? I've read Crank and Glass and really... I guess enjoyed (?) them both. Not exactly fun books, but very good.

True! I guess I'd expected it to be more "Indian" with the title, which had been keeping me from reading it. (The whole part in New Moon about La Push was the only part I skimmed through and didn't truly read!) But that wasn't what the story was about at all... I enjoyed it.

Read a book (YA or Adult) recommended to you by your father or daughter

The Venetian Betrayal: A Novel

My dad recommended it to me. My review pretty much says how I feel about it, my dad liked it about the same, for similar reasons. :)

I'm seeing people post points, but I have no idea if I got points for this one or whatnot.

Points: 2

message 34: by Jennifer W, WT Moderator (new)

Jennifer W | 1289 comments Mod
Jesi, you get 2 points for the first book you read within the month (so you get 2 points for The Venetian Betrayal). You then can get 1 more point for every other book you read that fits the criteria (ie: if you read another book recommended by your dad, you'll get another point), through the end of the month.

If you miss a month, you may go back and read 1 book for 1 point (for example, if you read a book with the word "summer" or "sun" in the title, you may get 1 point for June's task). Post those books and points in the appropriate discussion board.

Hope this helps! Welcome to the challenge!

Yayyy! I get points! **happy dance** ...is it sad that these points that I "win" in my groups make me read books I'd otherwise not bother with?

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy No that's perfectly normal. Since joining goodreads, I've read a bunch of books I wouldn't pick but actually liked! This group is great for getting you out of your comfort zone.

It's actually a Christian book, so it's nice to see the author tackle some tough real life kind of issues. It was sad, but not overly so. That wasn't all the main character was dealing with.

Kayla, when did you finish this book? If you read it in July you do get the 1 point, but if you read it in August, you won't get the point since you've already met the challenge.

message 50: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 40 comments Oh, I understand now. I thought I was still allowed to read one book "after the fact" even if I had already read one during the month. I won't make that mistake again. Sorry.

My total points are 5 still.
