LOL,you sound so like me!!!"Depends what jumps out from the shelf at me when I go to pick the next one"
I could leave BLACK DOGS and go to ENDURING LOVE,if you would like so we could discuss while fresh in our heads???
Yeah,I`m not banning myself until next year wghen I`m doing a year of reading from home.Apart from trawling round secondhand Bookshops to track down books from my wish-List!!!!!"
Hey its no problem to read ENDURING LOVE next,I plan to read all of them anyways.....No I still have space, but I still haven`t done the studio as the weather has been so good that I couldn`t bear to be indoors.......
I have a book I am just starting so probably about 3-4 days beforecI start...I hope you are wearing sunscreen?
You can kick my BT about Studio in the Autumn...LOL!!!
Mm I got a bit burnt iun the garden the other day and I was only out for 30 minutes!!!Hence my comment!!Yeah,Thanks for the summer thing but promise to kick my derrier about it in the Autumn??????
I've only read On Chesil Beach and I really liked it. I'm looking forward to read more by him, I just don't know which one...
SOLAR is good as it has a lot of humour and both Jo and I are reading ENDURING LOVE so we will be able to let you know soon.....
Hi JoOn the whole I think ot does take at least a chapter or two to really get into his rythym with one or two exceptions....
Hi **Waving** I'm here. Late to the party :)I read Amsterdam. It was the first of his that I did read.
At home I have Black Dogs and Saturday; I wanted to get Chisel Beach when it came out, but somehow I didn't. I'm glad that Gitte enjoyed it. I will definitely add it to my TBRs.

Will do!
Thanks for reminding me of how much I loved Amsterdam! I would say that this novel is my favourite McEwan novel; the characterization, tight structure, and sexual dynamics just a touch risque (I won't spoil it), made it an intriguing novel...... Hmm... Maybe I'll blog about it nextLeslie

Hi Shell, let me know what you think when you've read it...also to let you know he is working on the screenplay for it...
I recently got BLACK DOGS and so I will let you know how it goes :-)
I think I heard ENDURING LOVE as well but I will need to check and get back to you as I haven't seen it....
Hi well I would seriously recommend both ON CHESIL BEACH(I found this to be a little piece of prose that I could not put down for its simplistic beauty) and SOLAR as I was away by the contest and the fact that there was so much humor(some may regard it as Black Humor, just to give a heads up).Regarding Ian McEwan and the screenplays of his books just to say that ATONEMENTs screenplay was actually written by Christopher Hampton ad at that time Ian McEwan felt he was best not to go down that path.
I'm afraid that I still havnt looked into ENDURING LOVE in this aspect.Sorry.
hi DJ-thanks for clarifying for me. I must have been confused because at the end of the DVD I saw Ian McEwan interviewed; I think he must have just ben involved (somewhat) with the making of the movie Atonement.

He was one of the 3 Executive Producers on ATONEMENT,he would make suggestions but wash bothered of they were used or not....
It will be intetesting to see why he decided to write the Screenplay for ON CHESIL BEACH,maybe as it will need such sensitive handling?
We will fi d out in due course,no doubt

I thought he was involved at some level :) DJ, I take it you did read Atonement? And saw the movie? If yes, then you know the endings were a little different, but without changing the outcome. Which did you prefer?
DJ, don't get put off if you find it "wordy"...it is a bit cumbersome, especially part 2. I'd recommend you see the movie after you read the book. Fabulous adaptation (IMO) and cast perfectly.
Wordy does not put me off things...I adore the classics.I must be among the few who love the narrative by Marion in THE WOMAN ON WHITE-so you can see its not a problem for me.And thanks about the film bit I have already seen it...twice in fact.
I will let you know what I think of the differences......
Oh, glad you saw the film - twice :)I also LOVED The Woman in White by the way :)
I'm signing off for now-- have a great day! Fun chat this morning, DJ!
hi DJI've only read Amsterdam and Atonement (Atonement being a top 5 favorite), but I also have Black Dogs and Saturday. I'll definitely pick up On Chesil Beach, maybe see if the library has it.
Hi I've also got BLACK DOGS and THE INNOCENTS as well.I'm trying to build up all his works but also have a lot of other books on my Wish-list...I also have SOLAR......I'm really looking forward to BLACK DOGS so. Let you know how it goes :-)
Well, it's thanks to you and Jo I got them both. Couldn't decide between the two. Besides, I should have gotten them long ago, so thanks for the push :)
