I have to assume I won't get turned down for adding a thread to discuss the movie version of North & South. We can officially have a start date and post it then if you would like. Maybe in a week if anyone needs time to obtain it?

I still haven't looked to see if the earlier version (1975) is accessible at all, but I will assume most won't mind a little Richard Armitage (2004) at least.

Alicia For Netflix members, the 2004 version of North and South with Richard Armitage is available for Instant Viewing.

I just watched it (again) last week and would love to join in a discussion.

Joy (joyousnorth) If anyone belongs to Costco (in the US) I saw an Elizabeth Gaskell BBC adaptation collection available today.

It has Wives & Daughters, Cranford, and North & South for $17.99!

My hubby got me the same collection a year or so ago and I think it was around $40 then.

That's a great deal! Thanks so much for passing that along.

But I have just been given N&S for my birthday! I don't really want Cranford, and maybe could get Wives & Daughters outside the package cheaper.

Yes, I have watched my North & South, but will save my comments for the discussion. When did we want to discuss that? I will be unavailable the end of next week, but any other time is fine with me.

Joy (joyousnorth) I finished the book, so I am ready to watch and discuss :)

I saw your review! I agree on the stars :)

I believe Chris is offline or at least busy traveling and seeing his family. We can see if he is back and ready to talk movie by midweek or so? If Alicia is ready to go, then hopefully others can join in too.

Did you mean you have seen it already, Joy, or still need time to watch?

message 8: by Joy (new)

Joy (joyousnorth) I actually started watching the mini-series some time last year, but Margaret and John as were so aggravating to me that I didn't even finish watching it! But after having read the novel (and loving it!) I am ready to watch it again. I will probably watch it this weekend, so I will be ready to discuss any time after Monday.

You should have some interesting viewpoints on the movie then, Joy! I have questions as to why they changed some things about the story in the movie also. Just making a more dramatic I suppose. We'll save it for then. It should be a good discussion.

I can talk about the movie next week; well, at least off-and-on. I will be in Virginia with family, but I will check in every day, and see what kind of mischief you are all getting into. ;-)

Chris - were you able to get this?

Captain Sir Roddy, R.N. (Ret.) (captain_sir_roddy) Not yet, but I'm watching for it!

I'll go ahead and post the movie thread for the film North & South in the group Summer Movies folder. It should be easy to find, if you are new to the group. We can begin discussing if anyone is ready. It sounds like several of us are a bit on- and offline this week, but that is fine -- begin whenever ready.
