Voices in the Park discussion

This is a great book for teaching children about multiple perspectives on a common gathering place- a city park. Each character, or "voice" has his or her own mini-story about a day spent at the park, and the park itself represents something different for each character. In my own classroom, I would probably have different students read each of the voices, so that the individuality of each one is even more apparent. My favorite voice in the story was that of the little girl, Smudge. The book could also be used for a lesson on class differences and prejudice.

Hi Kristyan, what a great way to teach this in class! I really liked this book. I like how a meeting of people in the same place can have such different experiences.

I love this book too. I use this book a great deal in class to teach about different view points. I love all Anthony Browne books and use them a lot with children. I especially like Changes and The Tunnel.

I've just got this book for a kiddie lit course I'm doing. I think it's a fantastic little creation!
