This story took me several days to get through, not because it was extremely tough to read, rather because this was one of Lovecraft's longest tales. The story starts off with a man trying to find what happened to an ancestor. A journey that once began, poor Charles could never stop. He was unknowingly thrown into a world of wizards, grave digging, strange chemical experiments, and creatures so bizarre and out of this world, no other than Lovecraft could have created.
My favorite part of this story was when the doctor was searching through the dark caverns under the house. The narration in this section of the story kept me enthralled up to the very end, leaving me terrified at what would happen to Charles, his father, and the doctor trying to help the boy.
