Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Well- we had a tie :) so...

September 2010- Banned Books Week & Talk Like a Pirate Day: Read a book which is on the Frequently Challenged List OR read a book which takes place on a boat OR read a book with a pirate as a character.

Do we want to limit the banned books to YA or would adult books count as well?

I'd say either, as long as they are on the list- what do you think?

message 4: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 136 comments I say both.

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Sounds good :)

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Dang, I read The Dust of 100 Dogs last month...it would have worked for the Pirate character. Just checking will MG books work for banned/challenged books?

Check the link that Kellee provided. They have the top 100 banned books by year and by decade. If your book is on there, it counts!

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean
Vampire-pirates. Need I say more??

Kate (literarykate) I never knew that the Gossip Girl series has been frequently challenged. I've been meaning to read the books anyway so I'll pick one up at the library. :)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Just finished reading Speak, which is one of the top 100 books challenged from 2000-2009 according to the site above. It really was a powerful book and one that a lot of teenage girls should read.

I don't really know why people have such a hatred for him- I think they just don't get the humor. They got sticks up their butts :P

How was Super Diaper Baby?

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Tons of fun! I can see why these books are never in at my school library. :)

How was Nation? I'm planning on reading it later (this month, I think.)

========
On a totally different note - are we even remotely surprised by Scroggins? It's obvious he has an agenda, his "outrage" about Speak was simply furthering it, not actually aimed at the book, I think.

message 37: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Nation was... interesting. Worth reading, definitely. Makes you think. Overall fun and adventurous, but sometimes very deep.

message 38: by Amelia (new)

Amelia (pwnedkitten) | 198 comments So, pretty much a typical Pratchett book. :)

I just finished it yesterday. I was on vacation last week, so I got some catch-up time. I really enjoyed it! I have the sequel as well and hope to start it soon. :)

Also, I used the Isle of swords bookmark you made me a few rounds ago...
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

It was so cool to have a matching bookmark! :)
