What Are You Currently Reading?
I finished The Passage and started back on Ratings Game by Ryan C. Thomas. I love his humorous/gory writing style. He's responsible for the gorefest The Summer I Died, a book I push on every horror reader I meet.On my Kindle I'm reading the Benjamin Button short story by Fitzgerald, and some short stories by Jack Kilborn.
Ooooh I've always wanted to read those Dresden books. It's just one of those things that I always want to get into but never do for some reason.
I'm reading The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot. I've been meaning to read it for a long time. I had a period where I was into reading about the superstrings theory and quantum mechanics. When I discovered about Talbot's book, I was into other things. I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. It's a terrific book. I'm going to the library today to get out of the house and have some focus time reading this book. Too many things to do at home.

Currently I'm reading Those Who Went Remain There Still and Or Else My Lady Keeps the Key. When I'm done those, I've finally managed to get my hands on a copy of The Last Unicorn. I've read both it's sequel and the original version, but never the classic story itself. Can't wait!
Re: Dresden Files. I know you can buy them on Amazon. I wonder why the libraries don't have them. They are great.
Actually, my wife has the first three of the Dresden books. I keep meaning to read them, but they always elude me...lol
I don't know. I have this feeling of "seize the day" as we may never have a wealth of literature as rich as it is now. If some of those smaller presses lik Subterranean or Cemetary Dance ever go under, I think I'll cry. There are so many amazing books out there right now - I want to read them all!Yes, sometimes I eat my dessert before I've had supper. I can be a bit impatient. I do have a lot of fun ;)
I completely agree with you, Laurel. I'm not drowning in books, but swimming in them. In truth, I enjoy having all these option, all these books I want to read. It would suck big time if they all went away for some reason.
I'm the same way. I can't seem to stop obtaining books. But, at least I won't run out of books to read. That's much worse!
Ah so my growing collection of unread books is a just in case stockpile? So I'm not evil for reading stack after stack from the library instead?
God sometimes I swear I'll die by having a stack of boxes or straight up books fall on me while looking for a book I want. If I ever do get my books published I'll be visiting bookstores all of the time. Of course I think I'll also donate a bunch of brand new ones to the local library. They never buy very much horror or fantasy.
lol Yeah, I think I could die in a horribly embarrassing way with a shelf of books falling on me in my own home as well.
I am now reading Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie. I've been looking forward to reading this for some time. I'm only about ten pages in or so, but so far it's classic Abercrombie! LOL Whatching his characters is like listening to my friends. This weekend I joined Audible, and immediately got The Well of Ascension book 2 of the mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. I've already read this one, but I've been meaning to get to book three, but don't remember what happened at the end of book 2. So I'm going to be listening to it at work!
I'm reading The Passage and trying to figure out what I want to read next...so many options ion my to read pile...
Working on Atonement but beginning to wonder if I should watch the movie instead. He goes off on these tangents about things that mean very little to the plot and its distracting.
I had to put The Passage down. I just couldn't take all the noticable conveniences the author used to keep the plot moving. I enjoyed other aspects of the writing, and I also liked some of the characters, but it wasn't enough to keep me going.
Amanda, was the Atonement movie released recently, in the last three or four years? Also, does it involve a veteran from WWI? If so, I think I saw that one.

currently reading Jack Knife Cookery. From one of my survival buddies, old school stuff about what you can accomplish outdoors with a trusty jack knife.
I think she's a really good writer. She's created an interesting world with these books. There's quite a bit of sexual tension with the vampires putting out heavy allure, but it's fairly safe if you don't want urban fantasy that is too romancey.
I might check her out then. I tried Laurel K. Hamilton, but she wasn't really my cup of tea. Is Harrison comparable?
I think Harrison is much better than LKH. I'll be honest. She was the first urban fantasy writer I read, so I thought she was better than sliced bread. But, now that I've read a lot of UF, I realize that her writing doesn't have the zing of some of the authors that have become my faves. I think LKH is a bit repetitive in her writing and phrasing, which I don't get from Harrison, and her world is more interesting. She doesn't rely as much on heavy description of gore.
I'm reading
#3 in the Riley Jenson Guardian Series. I've also read the first two books of Harrison's Hallows series and my next one will be
too! How do you like it so far Lady danielle?
Kim Harrison is a far better and more consistent writer thank LKH! Definitely give her a shot. The plot, characters and settings are all original takes and the books haven't devolved into bad porn land. Each book is just as good as the first, sometimes even better. Jenks and Ivy are fantastic secondary characters and all the interactions in these books are believable which is more than I can say from other Urban Fantasy authors. The series' first story is actually a part of a novella anthology called Dates from Hell and features Ivy, the first book is Dead Witch Walking.
The Gargoyle sounds like it might be good! Four Past Midnight is one of those books by King I've always meant to read, but just never got around to.
Huntress, let me know what you think about it. Another fantasy /sci-fi group gave it high marks overall.
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "I started
, and I love the narrative voice so far."Todd's a big fan of Takeshi, at the least the early books anyway. I think he had some sort of issue with one of the newer ones.
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "That's disappointing when a series goes sour. Anita Blake is a big one that went South for me."Me too but I stick with it to find the outcome like a gawker at a trainwreck. I must be a glutton for punishment.
You're not alone. I have several friends who still read this series, although they complain about it in their reviews.
Jerrod, you asked me to say what I thought of Altered Carbon when I finished it. I really liked it. It's good science fiction, pretty edgy and very much a noir mystery. I'd recommend it to readers who don't mind bad language, violence and sex.
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "I started

I have great hopes for it. I just read Lobsters, it was included in Rewired: The Post-Cyberpunk Anthology and it was one of the best stories in the collection.

Right now, I'm reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. Next, I'm thinking of continuing my rereading of Jordan's WoT series by picking up book 8, or Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold.
