Library Society of the World (LSW) discussion
Introductions or Hey, Who Are All These People, Anyway?
I'm Jeff Scott, jdscott50 on friendfeed and Twitter. I'm a longtime goodreads user and a big fan. I'm glad LSW has a room. I'm wondering if could develop a reading list that best embodies this philosophy of Lsw. Like Infinite Jest or Confederacy of Dunces? Thanks for the group.

Hi Jeff! Glad you are here. I think that would be a great reading list. Rachel has figured out how to make a bookshelf, so if you have questions about how to do so, she is your go to person.
Cheers,
Martha

Hi Molly! Welcome to Libraryland! I'm a newish librarian and have become totally enamored with librarians, who are a pretty awesome bunch.
I'm in the Twin Cities. Where are you in MN?

I suppose introducing myself would be a good idea. I'm an academic reference & instruction librarian in MN. Yesterday, I spontaneously created this group in Goodreads in response to a discussion on FriendFeed (http://friendfeed.com/lsw) regarding what LSWians are reading right now. I hope it will be useful and fun.
What else to say about me? I am crazy about dogs, books and libraries. I like dark chocolate, black licorice and ice cream (A LOT). I put anchovies on pizza. I also love word games.

Hi, y'all! I'm Laura Botts, archivist from Georgia. Find me on Twitter and FriendFeed as "laurabotts."

Ah! I have a good friend who works at Carleton. Perhaps we can get together for coffee sometime. :)

Hi, I'm Marianne and I work in circulation at a SLAC in Colorado. You can frequently see me run my mouth on the LSW room on FriendFeed under some variant of "Marianne", but more pertinent to this group might be my book-reviews-and-occasionally-other-stuff repository: http://maribou.livejournal.com .

Hi, I'm Sarah WeaverI seem to be turning into a librarian groupie or sorta kinda honorary librarian by association since I am Martha Hardy's partner. I do love libraries. I'm an avid reader with quite diverse interests and tastes. I have a somewhat dormant life as a creative writer (meaning I haven't been writing in awhile), and am also a massage therapist/bodyworker and newly minted acupuncturist and TCM herbalist. I love dogs and food and cooking, fiction, theater, art, and seem to be developing interests in stuff like physical anthropology. I live in Minneapolis.
I'm Katy. I hang around the LSW room on friendfeed quite a bit. I have an mls but I don't use it professionally. As you might imagine, I'm a big supporter of libraries and librarians. I study literacy and library history.

Hi, Sarah! It's great to have you here. :)
Howdy! I'm Megan and I'm an academic librarian in Montreal (originally from Colorado). I frequently lurk on FriendFeed and participate in LSW conversations in spurts. Other interests? Besides long walks on the beach... Nautical history, linguistics, yoga, and Japanese food. (*^-^*)
Hi all. Derrick here, aka geekandahalf on FriendFeed and Twitter. Starting library school and relocating to New Orleans, a lot of which was due to cavorting around with you highly influential people in the LSW. I'm a big time foodie and enjoy good laughs with good people.
Rebecca here...Information Technology Manager in Indiana. You can find me on Twitter and Friendfeed as beccalovesbooks. Just for the record...I <3 Goodreads!
Hi I'm Daenel, longtime lurker on LSW on friendfeed. I go by any number of names but chances are if you see Dani, DaenelT or curiouschild, it's probably me. Yes, I suffer from multiple personality disorder ~ byproduct of being a wife, mom, librarian, archivist and history instructor. Ok, going to get more coffee... By the way, I love shoes, coffee and books.
Elaine in Olympia WA (epersonae almost everywhere on the web) -- another librarian groupie, which I've written about on my blog: http://www.elainenelson.org/2010/04/1... -- been lurking in the LSW on friendfeed.I've been using Goodreads for a while now to keep track of my reading - actually, the librarians in the OlyReads group have inspired me to be more thorough in my reviews!
Hi Everyone, I'm Melody, Associate Director at Guthrie Memorial Library, a medium-sized public library in Hanover, PA. I'm also the head cataloger and oversee the teen department. I love cats, collecting advertising dolls and figurals, cheesy horror and sci-fi movies and unusual jewelry, especially things with eyes.(Hi, Rachel!)

Hi, I followed Elaine over here... I'm Kelsey, I work as an adult services librarian in Olympia, Washington. I also like black licorice and dark chocolate, and I consider myself a bloody Mary connoisseur. I started the Oly Reads group here on Goodreads, which ended up turning into a real live book club. Nice to meet you all.
I'm Ahniwa, and I'm tipping the scales with 3 folks now from Olympia (it's the place to be, you know). I've been a proud LSW member for a few years now, and helped us win the California Dreaming game in ALA at Anaheim (go team!).I work at the Washington State Library, where I manage the statewide virtual reference cooperative (Ask-WA) and do other fun and interesting things. I don't have free time, but if I did, I'd enjoy playing darts and bocce and World of Warcraft, cooking, and, of course, reading.
Hi, I'm Jen - jsholman on twitter and friendfeed. I'm a periodicals librarian in La Crosse, WI. Love hearing about what everyone is reading!
Hi, I'm Louise, aka weez42, aka Weezy. *waves at Martha and Dani and Josh and other folks like it was Romper Room* Reference technology librarian in the Des Moines, Iowa area. I've been on GoodReads for a while, but I have so little time to read anymore, I don't have many recent reviews. I read a lot of mysteries and SF, and especially books that are both. Hi everybody! Nice to see you all in a different space.

Hi Kelsey? What is your secret to a good bloody Mary?
I like them spicy and full of stuff! Horseradish, pepper, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, extra olives and any other pickled vegetables are a bonus. I consider a good bloody Mary to work as a stand-in for a salad course.

Hi! Thought I'd add a brief intro too: I'm Jennifer, I go by modernhypatia in most online professional-type spaces when I don't use my full name. I'm an unabashed geek.
I just finished 10 years working in an independent school library (the first 8.5 as the assistant, the last year and a half as the teacher librarian) before leaving, as non-library administrative bits of the job turned out not to be a good fit for me. I'm currently looking at what to do next, but mostly want something that lets me help people find information they care about.
In the theoretical free time, I read a lot (lots of historical mysteries, character-driven science fiction and fantasy, and narrative non-fiction, but pretty much anything that sits still long enough), online game (World of Warcraft, and am currently enjoying a Twitter-based game called Echo Bazaar!), bake bread, spin yarn, play folk harp, and play with various technology tools and toys.
