I've been an Audible.com member since they first started. For some reason, they've never increased their rates, maybe due to some loophole? My cost for 2 audiobooks every month is around $16. Now, that's a steal!
That must be American prices. For us Canadians, 2 credits a month is $22. Still a great price though!
Do you have a favorite narrator?
For Sci-Fi, my favorite is Scott Brick. He did a terrific job on the Dune series and books by Orson Scott Card. I don't have a favorite in the horrors, yet, since I'm starting on the horror genre.
I have started to listen to audiobooks recently. I have a trial membership at audible.com. You get points also every month that can be used to buy audio books. I'll check audio.com.I have downloaded The Hobbit: or There and Back Again, planning to listen to The Lord of The Rings after it. I listened to a sample. It is dramatized and have all kind of background sounds. I think I am going to like it!
Oops, when I said audio.com, I meant audible.com. :)Awesome club!
I'm on a free trial as well.
Elana, did you join Audible through Writing Excuses?
Free trial? Mine is not free, but reduced monthly fee :(I joined it through Amazon. What is Writing Excuses??
Just call me the village idiot...lolMy brain is firing blanks today. When I read your post, I thought I saw free trial.
Writing Excuses is a podcast with Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, and another guy I always forget the name of. They discuss the ins and outs of writing, and because Audible endorses them, they offer a different introductory deal. You get two weeks for free, then start paying the regular $15 a month after that. So, you basically get one free credit.
I also have a job that audible books are great for.I listened to all the Twilight books. And I'm glad all I had to do was listen to them. I would have never finished them if I had to read them. They were horrible.
I listened to all the Artemis Fowl books. I really liked them. And I liked the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud. Listening to a book based on the Highlander TV show right now (got 4 of them). And after those I'm gonna listen to The Star Beast by Robert Henlein, one of my favs from my childhood.

Oh come on, you know you really ♥'d them.. I mean I thought the whole planet was infatuated with Twilight! LMAO
I was at the World Horror Convention this year and it seemed nobody liked those books there. Big surprise. I think a lot of it was confusion and jealousy...lol
Ugh. NO!My wife loves the movies. I decided to give the books a try because I didn't like the movies either. I listened to them between the theatrical releases of New Moon and Eclipse.
Maybe if there were at least one character that wasn't whiny I might have liked them.
LMAO- Yeah they all were very moody. I liked them all but New Moon but then again they are the first books I had read besides Parenting and Pregnancy books in 10 years.
I've been listening to Audiobooks since I was lucky enough to lay hands on the Harry Potter series narrated by Stephen Fry. I haven't enjoyed another narrator as much since, but I still enjoy listening to audio books. Its very relaxing and I love that my headphones shut out all outside noises so that I lose myself completely in the story. That being said, there are some narrators that I simply cannot listen to either because of voice tone, inflection, or pronunciation. One that stands out to me was the narrator of the Percy Jackson series. He was entirely too enthusiastic in his reading to the point that it was annoying and distracting.
Tim Curry did a great narration of the Abhorsen series, really enjoyed that. And I recently finished Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series on audio which was also really good.
There are some narrators I love, but then for one book they just suck. Then there are others I can't stand at all. If I have trouble paying attention to the narrator, then i won't like them.
I mostly listen to audiobooks since I can't sit still after spending hours at the computer. I like being active and doing things, and "reading" through an audiobook. I'm an insatiable learner.
Tim Curry did a terrific job on Foucault's Pendulum, too. Campbell Scott is one of my favorite narrator. The quality of his voice is great. He does the character expressions really well, but then becomes a neutral narrator again. Lindsay Crouse did a phenomenal job with Misery.
John Hodgman has a few audio books. His voice adds so much more to the text than just reading it. Very very funny.
Most of my reading is audio, it is so convenient, also great for aging, tired eyes. I do use kindle for mac and ipod as well. But I must say that when my hands are busy, the audios are a mind saver. I especially like celeb voices that are familiar. I've just added Wil Wheaton to my list for sci fi, he read some books for John Scalzi, perfectly. Too many great ones to name, but a much better bunch than earlier yrs.
I'm an Audible member. I tend to have audio books on any time I'm "busy" doing something that doesn't require actual thought. I also tend to put one on at night when i go to bed...no wonder I don't sleep as I should.
AND the Dresden books are very well done. Well, through Changes. I haven't listened to Ghost Story yet, new reader, I hope it's good, but the others are exceptional.

Does anybody else listen to audio books? If so, I recommend joining Audio.com. They have an incredible amount of audiobooks, and you can get one each month for only $15.00. If you do love listening to audiobooks, then you know that's a deal.
