Elizabeth☮ which do you prefer? hardback or paperback?

if it is an author that i really love and know the book will be worth the purchase, i get hardback. otherwise, paperbacks are easier to read and more portable.

I agree with you, Elizabeth. But I also like paperbacks better than hardcovers because I just can't get comfortable with hardbacks. They are too big and well, too hard. Plus, paperbacks are cheaper :) (Gotta think about my pocket money!)

Elizabeth☮ i will admit that i have a shelf of hardcover and most of them are signed copies. but there are only a few authors that i would invest the money in before reading the book at all.

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments I prefer hardback. They are sturdier and stronger and therefore, more likely to have a longer shelf life (no pun intended). They are so beautiful and smell wonderful. I can't quite explain my love of a hardback to the fullest though. I might just chalk it up to my book obsession, but it's more than that.

Another reason why I prefer paperbacks: They don't take as much place as hardbacks - and my book shelf is already full!

Excuse me for saying I still love paperbacks more :D
Hardbacks are sturdier, smell wonderful and look beautiful(too true), and I'm thinking maybe I like paperbacks more because they are weak and needed to be treated carefully. It makes me kinda protective. (Okay, it sounds weird, even to my ears)

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 300 comments @ Ginny - Hey, everyone can feel how they want about paperbacks. My love for hardbacks does not diminish a good book whether that be paperback or hardback. I really do have an obsession for books that I can almost feel in my blood. It's not easily explained, I blame that on my addictive blood. I figure books are better than alcohol in that respect :D

Paperback are a great deal more affordable for the pocket book and at times I have no choice but to get paperback because I just don't have the money.

Kate (katemreads) | 46 comments I personally like paperbacks better because their cheaper and take up less room on my bookshelfs, well usually. Mostly because they're cheaper though. Like Elizabeth, I do buy hardcovers if they're a book I really think I'm going to love. I had one incident where I bought the book, loved the first half and hated the second half, so it doesn't always work that way. So paperback is it for me.

Heather (nickyblue7) i personally dont really have a favorite. hardbacks are nice and sturdier but after awhile your hands start to hurt and you have to put the book down. Paperbacks are nice to carry around but the pages and the covers get all messed up

I have a huge mix of paperback and hardcover on my shelves. I rather have paperback because I carry them around everywhere. Although, sometimes hardcover is better for that because you don't have to be so careful.

I recently bought City of Bones. I had the hardcover book in my hand but I talked myself into the softcover and then I could get another book. I regret that choice because it is the weird softcover that has the plastic over it. I just finished reading it once and the stupid plastic is peeling up already. And this book never left my bed. :(

Andrez (andrez-ssi) honestly, I dont care. you dont get to chose your format here (its the editor's choice, they make it either paperback or hardcover - rarely both) but when i order books i usually get paperbacks although they get sometimes crumpled while shipped *rolls eyes* but, once again, i can buy more C; i a book has just come out and i really want it, ill obviously get hardcover though
