Kathy (thebrainlair) | 198 comments Seen as the number one contender based on starred reviews. What do you think of Incarceron by Catherine Fisher?

Kathy (thebrainlair) | 198 comments I enjoyed this one. I loved how Catherine Fisher led me to make predictions that didn't turn out quite how I guessed. So I alternated between slaps on the back and groans of frustration, but I couldn't stop reading.

Favorite thing about the book: Attia. She's my hands down favorite character this year.

I thought the story was original although it dragged a little at times. The setting reminded me of Gone by Michael Grant, at least where Claudia lived, although the time period modification adds to Incarceron's being more distinguished.

I did think Fisher took the easy way out with the ending though...

Still in my top picks for Printz.

Dana Duffy Backs | 27 comments I have n't checked the criteria for the Printz, but this book was published in England 2 or 3 years ago. Does this take it out of contention? I loved it, it reminded me of Airman, and Leviathan

Patrick O'Malley (Patrick3) | 6 comments Reading Incarceron currently. Pretty good story so far. I like the clues at the opening of each chapter. I have made some predictions so I'm looking forward to seeing if I'll be slapping myself on the back or groaning in frustration.

As long as this is the first publication in the US, it qualifies for the Printz.

You aren't as smart as I am so I'm sure you'll be groaning...:)

Patrick O'Malley (Patrick3) | 6 comments Groan! That was for Kathy's attempt at humor on August 4th. Incarceron itself was a pretty good read. I admit I was a bit confuzzled at times by exactly what Incarceron (the prison) was capable of and by whom was double crossing who, but I enjoyed the tension between Finn and Kiero, and between Claudia and the Warden. In fact, I perked up every time the warden entered a scene. I pegged him as Blaize pretty quickly, but it was a twist that worked for me. It is a book that I think would be better understood with a second reading, but I think it's a book worth reading a second time. My two favorites from this summer have been Happyface and Incarceron, although, it sounds like I should read Will Grayson pretty soon.
