Tom was awestruck by the grandeur of the school building, as he stood frozen at the Main gate and only moved in after receiving a painful nudge in the chest by Harry, his best friend from junior school. Though, Tom was left fuming and with lots of swearing but soon they were laughing again as Harry showed a wide grin and apologized, "I was just trying to wake you up" , "You nearly killed me Rabbit", Tom replied. Harry's long ears had earned him the nick name Rabbit from his best friend and soon he was popular as Rabbit in the whole class at junior school. Both Harry and Tom decided on "Adam Johnson High School" after securing good grades. Its not that the school was the best in town but it offered various benefits to the two friends with prospect of staying together, the obvious one.
Their chatter came to an end as a booming voice echoed through the school " All students are requested to gather in the Main Hall, its on the first right of the ground. The Headmaster will address you in 5 minutes"
Slowly, the students walked towards the main hall in small huddles. Main Hall was almost like a theatre hall, with big stage covered with blue carpet and green curtains hanging in background. Once the students were in , the gates were closed and lights were switched on ,illuminating the whole hall at once.
There were no formal introductions as Bryan Johnson appeared on the stage and took his position behind the rostrum. Mr. Bryan was 56 now but his athletic body made him looks younger by 10 years at least. He was the youngest in Johnson family and had not expected to be the Headmaster of High school his grandfather, Late Richard Johnson founded a quarter century ago, however the loss of his father and elder two brothers in a tragic car accident a decade ago fast tracked the appointment of the then 45 years old Bryan who was acting as the Head of Chemistry department. Bryan had proved even his worst of critics wrong (including Mrs. Fleming, the trustee of school) and not only continued the running of school smoothly but enhanced its reputation as one of the best run schools in town.
Bryan was short in his speech as always and welcomed the students in his usual affectionate tone followed by an advice for working hard to achieve their goals. Soon everyone discovered the identity of booming voice that had echoed 15 minutes ago as Mr. Henry, the school administrator, took over from the Headmaster. He had been in this job for 20 years now starting from a pretty young age of 38 and in 12th year of administration now.
“He does not look like an administrator”, whispered Rachel to Lisa, “what were you expecting, a chubby bald man wearing an overgrown moustache with a stick in hand, huh” Lisa replied in a hush tone and with a sarcastic smile. Rachel and Lisa were the twin sisters and were already getting much attention at the school due to striking similarity in physical appearance. Not only they resembled greatly in physical appearance, both were confident, intelligent and humorous.
Mr. Henry was exactly the opposite of what Rachel may have been thinking as he was lanky with a lazy walk and his sharp eyes on an ever smiling face, along with the booming voice can make any student nervous. He went along explain the procedures and rules along with warnings and possible punishments for those intending to test the limits.
