Elizabeth☮ i am following a similar discussion with another group, and i thought i'd post it here.

what are some great indie bookstores you've visited around your own city or in your travels?

for me, the tattered cover in denver, colorado stands out.

and in my hometown, houston, brazos bookstore is one of the best and only indie bookstores left standing. they host poetry readings and book signings and they have a great children's room.

Jencey/ (jencey) I have to admit, when I have seen the independent bookstores. I have not been impressed, but since moving to the Atlanta area. I have been to a couple of great Independent Bookstores. One is in Marrietta right off of interstate 75. The other is in Decatur Georgia called the Eagle Eye bookstore. Both do booksignings, have bookclub meetings, and have writing classes, and great websites.

Jenny (jenhysaj) | 300 comments The only one I really know of here is The Changing Hands Bookstore. Its really quite awesome and that is actually where Stephenie Meyer used to go to do all her appearances and signings.

There was a cute book store in Key West that I loved. I feel so horrible that I can't remember the name. I'll have to give my mom a call and get back to you.

Kristopher | 11 comments Brookline Booksmith in Brookline, MA is a fairly good one, although it's a bit of a drive from where I am now. I think one of the things that most amazed me about moving to Massachusetts is that for such an educated part of the country, there sure are a lot of really bad bookstores. I think the Booksmith and the Boston Book Annex are the only decent bookstores in the Brighton area I used to live in. The rest of the used bookstores tend to cater to "collectors" which translates to any book more than 5 years old costing 10 times what it's worth. Annie's bookstop is a little chain that has a decent selection and friendly employees.

Evelyn Gonzalez I dont remember the name, because we were just driving around, and you couldnt even tell it was a book store at first because it was soo hidden. They had a lot of good cheap books, not so great quality becuase they were older books but i really liked the bargains.

Kristopher | 11 comments Julia,

I remember going to a huge B&N in New Jersey with my ex. It was quite lovely....they had a massive selection of used books and, quite surprisingly for B&N, they were priced very fairly. I walked away with several of them.

Angela B There is a Barnes and Noble that is in an old movie theather in Rochester, MN I couldn't go in it because we were out on the motorcycle that night and it was getting cold out (it was early April in MN) but the outside was nice, I hope to get to go back on my next trip to MN

**Carla** I have a Halp Price Books in Peterborough ontario. They have a lot of good books but other than that we just have the Chapters and Smith books.

Elizabeth☮ i am in houston and we have several half price books located in our city. you can access them online, but nothing beats perusing the selection.

i used to work at borders and so feel more loyal to them than barnes and noble.
