Considered a classic, I read this in high school. There is a woman with a head wrap holding a child on the cover, which is brown. All I can remember is that the author was African and the word "Mother" was in the title. I read it along with Pearl Buck's The Good Earth, if that helps. Thanks in advance!

No, but thanks! I think it is older than that. I would have read it circa 1986, and I think it was an established classic then.
