For me, it's those vampire romances. I hide them from company behind my serious horror books on the bookcase.

Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood series) - J. R. Ward
Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire series ) - Charlaine Harris
A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark series) - Kresley Cole
A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry) - Laurell K. Hamilton

Lori Heh my secret shame is reading gossip sites and magazines...

Ack, you're right, Donna! None of my horror books are serious.
I have ones I really love, though:

Those Who Hunt the Night by Barbara Hambly

The Night Inside by Nancy Baker, which sadly was later retitled with the generic title Kiss of the Vampire

Sunglasses After Dark, the Sonja Blue collection by Nancy Collins

Preston and Child have a new book coming out really soon. I love these guys, Even though their books are written on a template I still find them enjoyable. I think it is Agent Prendergast.

message 5: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments Kewl thread KO...I have to join the ranks of the Stephen King fans. I love it, and I'm proud. Also, Michael Crichton and Tom Clancy. But most of all, and for the love of God do not repeat this... Anne McCaffrey.

There, I said it. Have at me you swine!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
I can live with all of those except stupid king. I can not believe you like that guy NB.

message 7: by Noran (new)

Noran Miss Pumkin books about strange happenings, UFO's, ESP, real ghost stories,, and the like. i got addicted as a teen. i do not believe much of it, it is my sci-fi reads i guess. you can tell by my book lists.

nich thank you for the up-date on the new book coming out, i just hope it is better then the last one--it was the first i did not finish, and sa the ending in chapter one. i was hoping all hands would go down with the ship on that one.

Not Bill | 1061 comments Hey..you all wanted shame and I dished. Can you all do the same? I dares ya!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Shame. Shame you want shame. Three words "The Cosmic Bandito's" I loved this book, read it like 4 times.

message 12: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
exactly what shame of mine could possibly be secret at this point NB? seriously... think about it.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Well there is that little "nick" tattoo on your left labium... thik about it.

message 14: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
LMAO!!! my labium???? dude... you crack my shit up.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Yes the singular to labia. Meaning you only have my name on one lip.

But glad I made you laugh anyway:)

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Ah, But it is still there. Admiration from Charissa, no matter how small and hidden, is still awesome to me.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
So... Umm... What body part are you going to dedicate to me Amelia? Come on all the cool girls are doing it.:D

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Honey, I've got 5, what's one more...You pick a part, "You pick it, I stick it!"

Just wait till next August and I show you a new tat...what then? Heh!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Ok. I want my tribute to be between you pinky toe and the one next to it... whatever it is called... I guess the ring finger toe?

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Truly? DEAL! Damn, you're a nice guy, cause the minute I saw the word PINK I was afraid to read on and I was going to fake it. Pinky toe, I can so do the pinky toe to ring toe connection!

Char, we have to go see my tatoo guy, Jerry!

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
omg... r u going to try to talk me into another tattoo???

The one that says "Nick" hurt so damn much already. Especially since they misspelled it the first time.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Really... Its four letters... I mean I'm the "n" ick.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Jerry's got magic fingers...you'll never feel a thing! *cough*

message 24: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 127 comments Once you put the "n" in quotes, I just have to point out...what you're left with is "ick". Seriously, you might want to rethink that one.

I'll admit to a weakness (though a declining one) for Stephen King. I don't think he's written anything I've even read in six or eight years, but he did some pretty compelling stuff at one point.

message 25: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 576 comments I'm hopefully getting mt first tattoo soon, what would you guys suggest!!

My secret shame is a love from YA book series Point Horror - I think I must have read them all. Also Richard Laymon is another secret shame - I hide the books.

message 26: by Meridee (new)

Meridee | 10 comments Hayley-

You know that everyone says to get one that you will love forever. I love my shoulder dragon. When I was asked by friends why I got a tattoo I told them that when I am a wizened old lady and my body washes up on some desert island beach the grandkids will have an easier time identifying my body--as in Yep, that's Gramma's tattoo. Must be her.

I adored my Grandpa and he had tattoos so I always wanted one so that I could be like him. Of course, this is the same man that told me that if I ate cooked carrots it would make my eyes pink like a bunny and hair would grow on my chest like his. I was smitten and ate so many carrots that I am surprised that I did not turn orange! I was also in about 5th grade before I "figured out" that my Swedish grandpa couldn't speak Chinese. He used to clack his dentures and make singsongy sounds instead of words and had me convinced that he spoke the language. I miss him still.

But seriously, take your time and go look through their book of tats at the shops, look online, if you have an artist friend that is phenomenal then go talk to them.

Bear it proudly when you do acquire your art.

As to my secret shame-- I have no shame!!! At least that is what my mom probably thinks. I was a damn hippie child of straight parents. Alas and alack.

message 27: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 576 comments Thanks Meridee - I was thinking about stars shooting from the waist line of my trousers - though it'll look like I have stars shooting out of my ass lol

Another set of books I hide are those my nana lends me - the family during the war stories - they all pull together and someone finds true love, a women is resuced from her husband who beats, everything turns out alright at the end - I hang my head in shame - but they bright my day when I read one.

message 28: by Summer (new)

Summer (summerbp) I'm with Jackie--paranormal romances, which is obvious if you look at my bookshelf. :-)

message 29: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 576 comments Jackie, I never read paranormal romances, are there any you would recommend for a first time reader - I'll try anything once.

message 30: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony Hm. Do I have any secret shame books? Can't think of any, honestly. I'll have to think harder.

I don't like Stephen King, though, and I've tried. Maybe I'll check out some of these paranormal romances.

I'll always have my secret Amy Grant record shame, though.

message 31: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) My secret shame has to be Clive Cussler and James Patterson books. I read quite a few at one point. I knew they sucked, but I read them anyway. The dialogue reads like what a smart Junior High student imagines adults say to each other, but I kept reading. So that’s it – well that and the fact that I was a devoted Smallville viewer for several years, even though I haven’t been a teenager for a loooong time.

message 32: by Ruth (new)

Ruth I don't think I have any secret shame books, either, RA. I do have a computer secret shame. I can waste hours playing that dumb little game Dynomite. There, I said it!

message 33: by RandomAnthony (last edited Jun 20, 2008 07:32AM) (new)

RandomAnthony Whoo, Koe, I'm sure as hell not going to turn down Nancy Sinatra in tights...I'm with you on that one.

message 34: by Olive (new)

Olive (dearestolive) Summer just got me started on vampire romances, so that might end up being one... and then bad chick lit. After a really big test, there is nothing better than rotting my mind with something like Chasing Harry Winston. Or the Shopaholic series (one of my favorites, I'll be honest).

message 35: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Hey, I like Anne McCaffrey! Just, not lately. And I refuse to read the rest of those unicorn girl books. The concept is just dumb, I'm sorry.

I used to read The White Dragon every time I got sick, and I've got Dragonsong all but memorized.

Alas, things change. I've never liked the books she "wrote" with co-authors to start with, and now it's her son Todd, and it's just not the same.

message 36: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
yes, I like Anne Mccaffrey as well... but if you knew NB you'd know to laugh and point. Seriously... very uncharacteristic.

message 37: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Oh, okay, laugh at NB.

What, YOU like Anne McCaffrey, Not Bill? What, do you have a thing for dragons or something?

Snort!

message 38: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments lol...creamy middle. More like a nougat. Just not the rum chew...gack! I did like Anne McCaffrey and did read her back in my young adulthood. I just evolved out of it. The fact that it didn't send me into prolonged fits of spittle spewing rage was clear sign of my confused state. I'm much better now, really I am.

Nothing wrong with dragons in wyrms.

message 39: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod

I'm thinking blueberry, personally.

Nougat, yeah, that works for my view of Not Bill -you have to chew it, it's a little nutty, a little sweet, and you don't want too much at any one time.

message 44: by Not Bill (new)

Not Bill | 1061 comments Char you are indeed wise as is Donna. Jackie, that's a perfect read.

message 45: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
I dunno... I always kind of liked nougat. In fact, I've been known to go on nougat binges. Recovery time is a bitch though. ; )

message 46: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Well, sure, YOU would go on a nougat binge, Charissa. You have a strong jaw, and no fear!

If Not Bill is filled with nougat, what are you filled with, Charissa?

message 47: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

spicy, lemony goodness. : )

message 48: by Summer (new)

Summer (summerbp) My current secret shame is that I'm (right now) watching a Disney original movie to unwind after a hellish day.

message 49: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony Ha, my kids are watching that same movie, Summer...it's stunningly bad. Who is your favorite Jonas brother, Summer?:)

message 50: by Lori (new)

Lori Who the hell are these Jonas Bros anyway, they are all over the place! Music, right? Good Christian boys too. Are they any good?
