With Pippa, I had a love/hate relationship with her. She was smart and sweet, but also a TOTAL bitch and self centered. I still have mixed feelings for her, and a lot of my feelings for her are more pity. =/ But I still like her.

I was really annoyed by her. I felt sorry for her and, yeah, pitied her but in the end thought she was stupid. If you're going to kill yourself be ready to deal with the consequences. Or simply refuse to marry the old guy and deal with the consequences! Screw her parents and their wealth, they don't love their daughter if they marry her off like that. I hated that her mother lied about her epilepsy so that that old dude would marry her.
I'd be like "screw you bitch." Then I'd run off and work for a living if I had too....but of course, Pippa couldn't handle anything like that and it's not completely fault. She's a girl in the olden days after all. :(
I really would of been the same too. "Fuck you, oldie." and run off, and make a decent living for myself. But yeah, like you said, Pippa is incapable.
I don't really know what to make of her either, from her arranged marriage to her ultimate demise at the end of The Sweet Far Thing (which didn't surprise me and I sort of saw coming). I guess I do kind of feel sorry for her slightly, and I know she means well, but she just got on my nerves. She was in places very selfish (Perhaps her mother's attitude sort of rubbed off on her). it would take guts to run away from that creepy old man, especially in those days. I can't really blame her for staying where she was, I suppose.
I love that time period in history where the series takes place, but I honestly don't think I could ever force myself to marry and have sex with some creepy, old man. *shudders along*
