I'm THIS anxious. Maybe even more so.
Just hope that amazon.de won't take too long shipping. That version with the red-ish cover...is that the US or the UK version?

US is the reddish/orangey color.

Steph (yunawings) | 5 comments I'm going to have to disappear for a few weeks until the 17th =( I'm not going to be jealous or anything oooh no, not me. I plan to attempt (big emphasis on attempt) to read just a few lines of the first chapter every day until my bookie comes in the post. My own personal Everest!

Steph (yunawings) | 5 comments Hurray for Amazon UK sending out Spy Glass almost 2 weeks early!! A nice present waiting for me after my first day at a new job! Going to read now - just needed to express the excitement with people who understand =D !

Amazon.de actually managed to ship the book on time. I LOVED it. Awesome ending to an awesome series.

(--MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD--)
Just one thing I was wondering about: why the heck did they put Opal's new "ability" on the back of the book? Two paragraphs of talk about magic detectors don't count as a plot in my world.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 67 comments I thought the same thing , Julia.

message 18: by Maria (new)

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 186 comments I can explain that Julia- my editor wrote the back cover copy way before I finished the book - it was based on my synopsis. The finished story went in quite another direction and by then the covers had already been printed. Plus I handed in the book well past my deadline and they had to scramble to get it out for a September release - so it's mostly my fault.

message 19: by Chocoholic (new)

Chocoholic | 8 comments Maria, I loved this book! It's my favorite so far. I can't really say why, but I think it has something to do with Valek (tee-hee). I realized that I'm finally really fond of Opal, and I really liked watching her make smart decisions and be empowered in the midst of everything she dealt with, instead of acting helpless. Having favorite characters come back and be a part of the story was a most excellent and welcome surprise.

I was bothered by the back cover's description because I kept waiting for something to happen that wasn't happening, but you just explained that and it makes sense now.

There is a question that came up for me about the more intense scenes in all of the stories. Personally, I can do with out the icky, but disturbing scenes (torture etc.) have been in each book. I SO get that these bad guys are bad and I'm wondering if they are so bad on purpose so that WE feel anxious right along with the character? I'm not sure if that question makes sense. I've just noticed that regular old bad guys in the fantasy genre that I've read give me the feeling of, "Okay, here's a bad guy, but the character will get out of this snag just fine in the end." In your books it's more for me like, "Oh crap!!! I know she will get out of this, but not until after really icky things happen to her!!" And even then, I'm not sure how it will turn out, and that makes me really nervous. Just curious about that. ;)

Anyway...Great job on another fabulously entertaining novel!

Rachel | 175 comments Finished Spy Glass and LOVE LOVE LOVED it!!! Can't wait to discuss this book with you guys! Can we add spoilers on this page or should I wait for a new one?

message 21: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 67 comments I can't wait to discuss it with everyone!!

message 22: by Heather (new)

Heather | 23 comments I can't wait to discuss and see what others think of it. I will say that some parts I am not real happy about, but over all I really did enjoy the book.

message 23: by Jessie (new)

Jessie R (magiccircle) | 26 comments Perfect ending to a perfect trilogy.. I love it how Maria actually listens to her readers.. It makes the the books more relateable somehow! Shame I have to wait for the next one:(

message 24: by Maria (new)

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 186 comments Chocoholic - writers try and make their readers feel happy, sad and uneasy, too. If you're not emotionally invested in the story, then I think the characters failed in some way. I also believe that bad people can be ruthless and do bad things. Crossing these people is dangerous. The stakes are high in my books and so are the consequences. Does this help?

And I do listen to my readers and understand not everything I write will be well received :) I just try and write a nail-biting story that incites discussion. And I think Alethea usually puts a thread up that includes spoilers and one that doesn't...I think!

And while we're talking about SPY GLASS. Bitten By Books is having a poll on the best cover for September and SPY GLASS is one of the choices. They also did a review and are currently having a contest to win a Kindle!

message 25: by Jessie (new)

Jessie R (magiccircle) | 26 comments In Austalia the cover for Spyglass is purple with a picture of an intense and thoughtful looking Opal with a large diamond in front.. The diamond sort of glitters when it catches the light.. I've seen the U.S cover as well and it is equally beautiful..

message 26: by Chocoholic (new)

Chocoholic | 8 comments Thanks Maria. I appreciate your answer to my question. I agree with everything you said. I've never asked an author a question like that and was truly curious about the bad guy component. I have enjoyed both series immensely (I hope it didn't sound like I didn't), and I know that one of the reasons the stories are so good is that we as reader are living the story with the character, not just reading about them. I love that--even with all the dark stuff. I appreciate the badness of your bad guys. If they weren't so awful, it wouldn't be the same story. I really, really love the stories. You are amazing. :)

Althea - I am looking forward to the non-spoiler discussion. I hope I didn't spoil anything by mentioning a certain character. Can you delete any part of my post that shouldn't be there? I'm so sorry if I goofed.

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 186 comments No worries Chocoholic (love that screen name btw!) you didn't sound like you disliked the books (hmmmm...double negative means a positive!). There are a bunch of books i love, but don't like certain aspects of the story as well.

Also - I don't think you said anything real spoilerish :)

Magiccircle - I love love love the Australian covers for the Glass books - they found a great match for Opal and are my favorite of all the different covers. The UK STudy books are my favs for the Study books.

message 28: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 67 comments The UK Study books are my favorites too. I had to order them when I saw how amazing they looked. :)

message 29: by Jessie (new)

Jessie R (magiccircle) | 26 comments Yeah the Aussie covers are pretty.. The girl on the cover representing Opal looks a little like Natalie Portman only younger.. What do the U.K covers look like? Will have to check it out.. ~Jessie~ x

Reema | 142 comments Hello all

Sorry it's taken a while for me to get on here, it's been a hectic few months.

I'm finally caught up on Spy Glass and OMG it was amazing.
I can't believe how amazing the story was and how completely different the ending was from what I could have imagined. Plus I love the new characters although I am partially bias!!! I had no idea, it was the most unbelievable shock. But a great one. Thank you so much.
Love you Maria and love your books xxx

message 32: by Mawgojzeta (new)
