Zoe | 113 comments I also just saw an ad in this weeks People magazine (my guilty pleasure)that The Pillars of the Earth is going to be a series on Starz. I don't get Starz, but I loved the book so much I may Netflix the first season when it comes out. I'm not sure how I feel about this book in series form though. Hmmm...

A series, wow! I heard it was going to be a mini-series on BBC....

looks like it will be a mini-series on Starz (about 8 episodes) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1453159/

I don't subscribe to Starz either, but maybe will and then cancel? I really want to see this!

This starts tonight! I went ahead and added Starz to my package because it wasn't that much. I read about someone who saw the first two episodes (somehow?) and said they were very similar to the book.

This will for sure make me want to re-read the book! I'm so excited!

Wow, it's so crazy to see your favorite book played out on screen. Rufus Sewall is doing a great job. SO far they have done a fantastic job with the casting. It is absolutely making me want to re-read this book. Although it is very close to the book (so far) it is impossible to give all of the details that the book gives.

Zoe | 113 comments The first episode is out on Netflix "watch instantly"! It was sooooo good! How many have aired so far? I hope the next one comes out soon!

three as of this last Friday. I have watched the first two and when I get home tonight I'm going to watch the third. It's really making me want to re-read the book. I am loving watching what they are doing with it. It feels very close to the book, almost like an abridged version of it. So fabulous that it's already on Netflix! The second episode is only an hour (I think only the first one was two).

Just cried my way through the end of the latest episode... are you still watching this on Netflix, Zoe?

message 9: by Zoe (new)

Zoe | 113 comments I haven't had a chance to check and see if the next episode is up yet, but I plan to. It's funny, I just reminded myself about that today!

Zoe-- It feels like it is going really fast. I had thought 6 weeks would be a long time, but since it's only an hour each episode it's flying by and I feel like they are having to cut things. Only two more weeks left (I think).

Fiona -- really? I'm surprised, I would have thought it would show at the same time everywhere. Zoe says they have it on Netflix Instant already.

Ah, the series finale is happening next week (2hours)! I honestly can't remember the end of the book, so it will kind of be new-ish for me again.

Sarah (bookwormblues) I enjoyed the show, but I thought the book was much better.... isn't that the way it always is, though?

Me too. In fact, I haven't even gotten a chance to finish the show -- and I'm not crying about it. Though I think they did a good job with casting, I actually didn't love the show. When I am watching an episode, I will get into it, but I don't rush the TV to see it. (And this is one of my very favorite books, possibly favorite).

I wonder if they just tried to cram too much into 6 weeks. It's hard to connect with the characters and there is so much of the backstory missing.

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (bookwormblues) I was kind of bugged at how some parts of the show were rushed through, like when Jack is traveling through Europe and that whole event. It took so long (and was so interesting) in the book but in the show they didn't even go into any of it. Other parts were skimmed over like that quite a bit, as well. It annoyed me. I agree, maybe they did try to cram way too much into too short of a show. However, I do think the casting was good.... I enjoyed the show but was kind of let down by it.

It still made me want to re-read the book. But I think if I hadn't already read it once, the show would not make me interested in reading for a first time. (did that make sense?)

Oh well, at least they made it! I still have yet to finish the final two episodes, but I will get around to it soon.
