A dryad passing through the still air of the shady trees glanced through the window of a small cabin. She didn't remember it being there before, but time moved so irregularly for her people that it could very well have been there for fifty years and she never would have noticed. It was shaped like a low, flat cylinder, a perfect circle, the colour a pearly gray which seemed unremarkable at first, but when the dryad stepped nearer, saw it glittered with iridescence. She peered through the window and saw the opposite end of the wall-- a boy (or a man, she could never tell when humans were that age) slept soundly, his full lips parted, breathing softly. A wicked-looking bronze scythe leant on the wall next to him. Admiring the youth's features for a moment, the dryad passed on to regard the interior of the cabin. Everything was understated and simple, from the ancient wheels that hung on the walls for decoration and the apple tree, miraculously growing inside. Gazing at this miracle, the dryad suddenly recognized whose offspring this cabin belonged to. Her wide set brown eyes alighted on a massive set of silver scales in the opposite corner from where the handsome youth slept, clearly for adornment rather than use.
Whispering a low prayer to the goddess of justice, fate, and retribution-- Nemesis-- the dryad melted back in the trees, just as Ajax awoke. The sleepy half smile on his face as he registered the face of the dryad whipping out of sight recalled that of a drunken angel.

Diona climbed one of the trees out side of the cabin enjoying the view of the cabins.

Yawning hugely, Ajax shut the cabin door behind him with bang and stepped out, nibbling on a square of ambrosia. He hadn't even bothered to put on a shirt and change out of grey flannel pyjama bottoms, his boxers slightly visible as they sat low on his hips. He'd just take a small walk, in the woods and go back to sleep afterwards. His dark eyes scanned the woods. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest when he caught sight of a small girl leaning casually in a tree, and he glared at her for her privacy invasion. "Um, excuse me?"

A shaken Charlotte made her way from the lake shore through the forest, growing jittery. Mostly because of Carter, but some passing dryads had also startled her along the way. She stumbled upon another cabin, unfamiliar with this one. Something caught her eye amongst the trees, giving her another scare. "What are you doing?" she asked the girl, brows going up.

Ajax blinked, whipping his head to Charlotte, and jumped back, involuntarily clapping a hand to his chest. "Oh my gods," Ajax hissed in surprise, now fully awake. He recovered quickly, mildly embarassed at his... er, lack of normal clothes. "She's just chilling in a tree, apparently." He crossed his arms over his chest in a lost attempt to cover up. Ajax really didn't want Charlotte to think he was one of those.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

"Huh, how odd." A bitter laugh escaped Charlotte at the words, then she realized who she was looking at, face paling. "Oh my gods..."

Ajax's face fell by a degree. "Sad to see me?" he asked wryly, leaning on the threshold of his cabin and crossing his long legs. She'd obviously been lost after leaving the lake and had stumbled to his cabin by accident.

((WHUDDUFUUUUU? Mom says to ask when you want to be home, Fregey. How was Despicable Me?))

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

"N-No," Charlotte stammered, shaking her head. Instead it had been Diona who'd cause the color to drain from her face. "I've had the most awful encounter," she began, eyes flicking wearily to Diona.

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Ajax's expression softened, but ever so slightly. His gaze was still calm and level with Charlotte's. "Hm. Judging by your struck expression, it was either a terrifying Greek monster or a... well, a terrifying Greek monster." He raised his eyebrows, not glancing once at Diona. "What was it?"

message 11: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 03, 2010 02:00PM) (new)

((Sure.))
"You've guessed correctly," Charlotte confirmed mockingly, brushing the hair out of her eyes. "It's all too much," she complained, brows slashing down in confusion. "I find out my father is a Greek god and then I have some random Aphrodite guy I've never met basically telling me that he's fallen in love with me. Please tell me this is something I'll just wake up from, please." She wanted so desperately to believe it was.

message 12: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Before he could stop himself, the words were out of his mouth. "What Aphrodite guy?" Ajax found himself asking. He shook his head to clear it. "Sorry. You should probably know that most Aphrodite guys are like that. And girls," Ajax added as an afterthought, furrowing his ink-black brow. "And I wish it were your dream. Really. But sometimes you've gotta face reality... no matter how unreal it is." Ajax finished somewhat lamely, and he looked down at a ladybug that had landed on his chest. Instead of flicking it off, he busied himself with scooping it up and placing it on the apple tree sprouting from his cabin. "And I'll never get used to waking up in the middle of the night to find all sorts of insects swarming around the apple tree," he complained, watching the bug spread wings and disappear.

Charlotte frowned miserably, wishing her mother was here. Why can't all this be some freaky nightmare? she wanted to wail, but didn't suppress so much as a whimper. "Well, I'm sure he could've taken the hint I was creeped out. And I was also given advice by," she eyed Diona for a second before continuing. "six year old, by the looks of it, on who I should be dating. Simply marvelous."

Shrugging with an apologetic smile, Ajax uncrossed his arms, finally a little more at ease. "Oh, really? And who did she suggest?"

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

This is gonna be good, Charlotte thought bitterly, arms folded across her chest and brows arched. A rueful smile played on her lips as she turned to face him. "You."

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Instead of staring at Charlotte, Ajax turned to Diona with an incredulous look on his face. "Um, how does she even know who I am?" he asked. Finally, as if testing himself to see how long he would take from looking at Charlotte, Ajax turned to her. "Well, just shows how much she knows," Ajax said with a slightly off smile. He wasn't really sure that Charlotte was all that into him.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

"I'm scared to ask." Charlotte's smile soon disappeared, as if her face was always accustomed to looking indifferent.

message 18: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Confused, Ajax's brow furrowed for the second time in as many minutes. "Er... ask what?"

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

"Never mind," Charlotte said dismissively, not very much in the mood to talk about it. "Well, I guess I've gone and gotten myself lost. Joy of joys."

message 20: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
((Awwww. I thought she was scared to ask Ajax out. :( ))

Ajax sighed. "Yeah, it happens alot. You're looking for the Poseidon cabin? Go back until you reach a silver cabin, that'll be Artemis. Keep on going along the U until you find your cabin."

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

((Awww, that would've been better.))

Charlotte hadn't been headed for her cabin, but oh well. She nodded to him in acknowledgement. "I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going. Didja get any sleep?" she inquired with mild curiosity.

message 22: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"Yeah, actually I did. Dryad woke me up. They like tapping on the windows." Ajax mimed tapping a window, a smile gracing his dark features.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

"Hmm, interesting." Charlotte then remembered a question that had lingered in her mind since visiting the stables. She would've asked the Demeter children that were there, but wasn't one for conversation like that. "Hey, can all half-bloods talk to those, um, pegasi, I think they were."

Diona laughed silently to herself and jumped down from the tree gracefully. "Carter is a bumbling idiot. Pay no attention to him. At. All. Ever. Okay? Yes, I am right. Also you two should go out. Just to make Carter jealous. And, you would make a good couple." Diona thought for a second, she glanced at her throbbing ankle and grimaced then went back to her mood. "If you're a posiden you should meet Nat, she's like gossip/drama queen. She'll give ya the dish. She's like almost as good as me. And then you-" She pointed to Ajax. "Have you met Caspar?"
She blabbed.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte's eyes widened to a wide degree. Who the heck does she think she is? Of course, she herself had already decided not to go near Carter ever again if she could help it. Her face drained of all color when Diona suggested Ajax and her as a couple. The shock was so bad all Charlotte could do was stand there and stare at Diona in utter disbelief.

Diona smiled at her expression. "You'll see." She said. Wrinkling her nose, lost in thought she numbly twilded her thumbs at her sides. She rocked back and forth on her heels. "I wonder when Chiron is going to announce the prophecy people." She wondered to herself. Her eyes widened a little. "Or if he already did..."

message 27: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Ajax shook his head, a mild smile covering his shock at the girl's blatant... well, bluntness. "No, he's announcing it today at sundown. If the Council comes to an agreement. And yes, I have had the, er, misfortune of meeting your older brother." Ajax scowled at the memory.

Memory

Four years ago, when Ajax had been at camp for a year, Caspar had spread a rumour that he was... well, bi. Furious at the rumour, Ajax waited for the perfect chance for revenge. The stuck-up son of Dionysus had had a party. Caspar had gotten drunk as two drunk pigs and passed out in his birthday cake. Ajax + drunk, passed-out Caspar + birthday cake + camera + HalfBloodNet.com (like Facebook but for CHB, invented by an ingenious son of Hermes a few years back) = Caspar x Embarassment. The two had been sworn enemies ever since.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte stayed silent, only watching the two blankly. She barely understood everything that was going on and all she wanted was to be back home. But no, that couldn't happen, she would never be normal. She shook the thoughts away and noticed Diona's ankle. "That's swollen," she murmured.

message 29: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Ajax noticed the swollen ankle with a grimace. "How'd you get that?" he asked. He'd had a sprained ankle one before, and it was not a pretty sight.

Diona sighed. "Get what? That? That's my ankle. You're born with it." She said, not acknowledging the swollenness ((Sorry had 2 edit))

Ajax laughed, though the sound was confused. "Um, OK?"

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona riased an eyebrow. "Yeah, don't you have one?"

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

"Really?" Charlotte asked with a bitter sarcasm. "Seriously, you should get that checked out. It's not good to leave it untreated," she said, taking on a serious tone.

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona sighed. "Check exactly what out? My cranium? A lot of people say I should."

message 35: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Ajax rolled his eyes. "No, your ankle."

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte was losing her patience, something she never had much of. "No, I meant your ankle. And you knew that."

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona snorted. "I jumped out of a tree, big whoop." She said. "Caspar is my counselor and he doesn't care so it's fiiiine." She persisted.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte echoed her snort. "It's not fiiiine. What, are scared about having it checked or something? Do you have something to lose in getting it treated?"

message 39: by Kat, Goddess of Dramatic Exits and Strawberry Yogurt (new)

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona shrugged. "It's not bad, and I don't want to waste time. I mean, the infirmary should be dealing with Hunter's Sickness not a boo-boo." She mimicked boo-boo like a four year old.

message 40: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
Ajax had to keep himself for rolling his eyes for a second time. "Oh, Caspar's your counsellor. Obviously he doesn't care," he said, fury building up under the calmness of his voice.
The sun was quickly sinking in the horizon, streaks of light hitting the clouds and turning them bloodred, cotton candy pink, and lavender.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte rolled her eyes, shrugging. "It'll get worse, Being stubborn about it won't help."

message 42: by Kat, Goddess of Dramatic Exits and Strawberry Yogurt (new)

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona shrugged. "He's the closest thing I have a to a guardian. Except for Diyonsis. But ya know, he doesn't really care about anything but the cup in his hand."

message 43: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"Caspar or Dionysus?" Ajax asked, and it was really, really hard to keep the dripping sarcasm out of his voice.

message 44: by Kat, Goddess of Dramatic Exits and Strawberry Yogurt (new)

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona chuckled. "It's fine, he's my brother. I'm not like his protector or anything. I meant Diyonsis but I guess it could go both ways."

message 45: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"Yes, I suppose it could, couldn't it?" Ajax said, and there was no trace of warmth in his frigid voice.

(Someone suggest to go to the campfire so they can see who's going on the quest.)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte looked toward the horizon, shifting uncomfortably during the conversation. "We should be getting to the Campfire," she said.

message 47: by ., Goddess of Bacon (new)

. (onawhim) | 17465 comments Mod
"Guess so," Ajax replied coolly, retreating inside for a moment so he could pull a soft grey hoodie over his plaid pajama bottoms and shove on a pair of flip flops. "Let's go, then," he said to no one in particular, and set off towards the blood-red sunset.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlotte followed after him, nerves starting to calm down. She mildly wondered about who was going on the quest, as it probably had nothing to do with her.

message 49: by Kat, Goddess of Dramatic Exits and Strawberry Yogurt (new)

Kat (sugaraddict) | 11750 comments Mod
Diona ran past them.

There was sound coming from the Nemesis cabin, usually quiet and solemn-- a boombox softly beating out rock. The only occupent of the cabin was sitting on the floor by his bed, polishing his wickedly curved scythe with a large metal pail resting not so far by.
