Hi. My name is Catherine McKenzie, and I'm the author of SPIN (HarperCollins Canada, 2010). & In case the rest of you weren't sure, Cathy rocks!!
Hi, I'm Sandra, avid reader, grandmother, dog owner, semi-retired. I listened to an audio version of your book earlier this year and loved it! At first, I thought the narrator was a little prim, but she grew on me and I hated to stop listening. At the end I was sobbing. Thank you for a great read/listen!
I'm Carina and I moved to upstate NY from Texas about 2 years ago. The Day the Falls Stood Still was recommended by my cousin, who owns a bookstore and organizes a book club (in fact, the best book club ever) there. I read it ahead of schedule (it's the August book) and very much enjoyed it! I also recently read The Falls by Joyce Carol Oates.
Hello everyone. I'm Kathy (with a "K"), and I am a former teacher who is always looking for novels that support or enhance factual studies of a subject. The Day the Falls Stood Still is certainly such a novel. I have two grown children and two granddaughters that I've managed to pass the reading bug onto (well, not the youngest granddaughter yet, since she's only 10 months old, but we've started on it). Rinabeana, I, also, read The Falls: A Novel by Oates and enjoyed it. These two falls books are both great reads!
Hi, Cathy, and everyone! Cathy, you and I talked about your book some time ago. I loved its historic sense of place and time, as well as the subtleties of romance, and struggles with nature and heart. I'm a 60 yr. old bibliophile who started reading in my crib, evidently. I have a love of books that has made a library of my houses for ages. How could my children escape being avid readers...my grandchildren escape grammie's bookish gifts...and my true friends fail to be bookish, too? I have a blog called "Bound to be Bookish." I live in Naples, FL, and came here by way of Wellesley, MA, where I belonged to a fantastic Bookgroup there for more than 10 years.
I'm Joanna...and I wish I had more time in my life to go back to a book group. I really love reading a great book and then analyzing it and getting different perspectives on everything from the plot to the characters to overall themes as well as the most important thing: whether it kept me hooked and why. I'm a 38-year-old mother of a 13 & 10 year old; I'm a CPA and I have my own practice (in my house - I'm crazy) and with few exceptions I only get to read for fun April 15th through Jan 15. I love escaping into a book as the experience helps me see my life as another story to be told. This is also why I rarely read non-fiction; I have plenty of non-fiction in my "activities of daily living." :-) I live in Portland, Oregon, the country's most green state and I love its quirky attitude, strong identity and sense of place. This was definitely one reason that I really synced with TDTFSS as it had a strong community pull that resonated for me. The characters were drawn clearly and the story felt more like it was a family story to be shared with later generations. Combine those elements with Cathy's lyrical writing and it was a perfect match for me. Thank you for sharing the story with us!
Read Goodreads author (and chatter) Catherine MacKenzie's Spin now. Spin is intelligent, poignant, and a bit of rollicking, good fun. Check it out. http://catherinemckenzie.com/

Thanks, Sandra. The actor that read for the audio version is Karen White. She called me when she finished and told me she could hardly get through to the end, bawling as she was.

This is a stab in the dark, but is your book club at Present Tense in Batavia? If so I will be joining your book club via skype. I hope I'm not blowing a surprise.

Thanks, Joanna. I do think TDTFSS has an extra richness for those with environmental sensibilities. I attribute mine to growing up in an outdoorsy family with a natural wonder of the world in our backyard.
