Amy So at the end of last school year I was displaced (meaning my position is no longer there). I was reinstated at my same school, but instead of gifted education I'm now going to be teaching Kindergarten. Not happy about it but better than not having a job. So, what are your favorite read alouds for kindergarten? I haven't had to do any read alouds in about three years so I figure I might as well start researching.

Ashley (affie) | 468 comments I'm not so great with read-a-loud books and even worse with appropriate books for this age group,
but what I was young I LOVED Pippi Longstocking, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, and Encyclopedia Brown.
The Wish Giver: Three Tales of Coven Tree by Bill Brittain might be a good one to try, especially in read a loud mode.
Mr. Popper's Penguins might work... Umm... Ya. I think that's about all I've got right now. I hope any of those help...!

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Well during Children's Literature I did a bunch of picture book studies that were fabulous. The ones I especially liked (and aren't too well known):

Tacky the Penguin
Willy's Pictures
Swimmy
King Bidgood's in the Bathtub: Book and Musical CD (and it is even better with the musical CD!!!)
Owen
Smoky Night
Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale
Angelo
Chato's Kitchen

When I was little I always liked silly stories read aloud to me. My favorite was Dr. Seuss, because my parents would get all tongue tied by the end.

Some other silly books (that won't wear you out so much) are:

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Mucky Moose
and the Dragon books by
Dav Pilkey like Dragon's Fat Cat: Dragon's Fourth Tale

Good luck with your new job!!
