COMBAT!ants discussion
The Show
Where is everybody we can't just start such an awesome sight and then not get on it ! where are those loyal fans or I am I the only one!?!?!?
well think faster I am starting to shrivel up I must have combat !!!!
I am sooooo ashamed of myself but hey I gave us something to talk about!
Ouch that hurts I don't think I shall recover from that cutting remark!!!!! PLEASE FORGIVE MEEEE! I'll do better really I will!
Just remembered I never answered these! Tough questions too!!
1. Favorite episode: hard to choose!! They're almost all so good! But let's see....some of my favorites that come instantly to mind are: The Glory Among Men, The Duel, The Hunter, The Hard Way Back, and The Hostages.
2. Another tough one! Um, Paul Burke (from Point of View) and Beau Bridges (Short Day of Private Putnam) are two to start with anyway....
3. As for the favorite quote, I'll have to think about that one.....
uhkkk!!!! we just watched Gantlet last night and most of it was pretty good but the camera angles were weird and when he took the morphene it got really weird and stupid!!!!
I remember that one; yeah, it was--um.....pretty strange there for part of it. Not one of my favorites! :-)In general it seems like I didn't care for most of the color episodes as much as the black and white ones; I don't know if it's just because they're in color or if the black and whites were actually better.
I couldn't remember Entombed but I looked it up in the Viewer's Companion and I think maybe I do remember it--the part about the Frenchman sounds familiar--is it the one with Germans, French, and Americans in the cave at once? You would think they would learn not to go in caves :-) You just know when they do they're going to collapse! But they never seem to learn LOL!
What's your favorite episode?I love so many, but my favorite one right now is "The Leader"
Who's your favorite guest star(s)?
Rip Torn in "A Gift of Hope", Sal Mineo in "Nothing to Lose" and "The Brothers".
Your favorite quote(s)?
Any of Saunders' ground shaking speeches
Hanley: "If the Krauts start moving in, you know what to do." Kirby: "Yes sir. Panic." ("Weep No More")
"They're probably clerks; they don't get dirty." (Billy in "The Party")
personally I did not like the brothers all that much. It was good but not my fav.
Great choices, Julie! Is "The Leader" the one with Kirby in command? I love that episode too. Good quote choices too :-)
Yes, it is "No Hallelujahs for Glory". It had some comic moments, but that woman was nuts, then it got heavy handed at the end making the point that war is not all glamor and glory.
My mother and I were discussing the end of that one, trying to decide if the journalist learned anything from Saunders or not--I hope she did, especially since she caused so much trouble, but on the other hand she was pretty wrapped up in her own thing.
definately not! uh Sarge was so great at that part! but you know he's is always amazing!!!
We just saw "The Medal" (I think that was the name), with Frank Gorshin. That was kind of funny, because I was used to seeing him as The Riddler on Batman :-) I thought it was a good episode though. Parts of it seemed a little different from some episodes, like in the way Saunders and Hanley talk to each other, so maybe it was one of the earlier shows? I'm not sure.
that guy was deeeeeeee-spic-a-ble!!!!!! although I do like the conversation lil' john and cage have. it was funny. isn't thta the one where sarge is screaming!?!?!?!?!?
Yes, and I thought that was a funny part with Caje and Littlejohn too :-) Usually it's Littlejohn and Nelson who get the funny lines but Caje was good too there.
yeah! he's not usually really funny, your right, but the delivery was really good in that scene!
Last night we saw "The Little Jewel." I liked that one a lot, and Kirby has some good scenes in it, too.
what was that one again I think I've seen it?
It's the one where they meet a young French boy, who keeps following them around on their mission. Kirby is suspicious of him but everyone else likes him.
Yes, that's the one :-) Now that I think about it, there are several episodes, aren't there, where there's someone who could be either good or bad--the others, and usually the viewer, don't know for sure whether to trust that person or not. I usually like those shows :-) But then I like most of them LOL
Why thank you I've worked hard to become so!
I've finally thought of a favorite quote: Saunders: "I stopped thinking about it."
You know, I cannot recall which episode that came from, but every now and then the line goes through my head.... :-/
I'll post some more quotes as they come to me....
Yeah, that's a good one! I thought it was kind of funny in the book, too (the Jo Davidsmeyer book) in the synopsis of that episode, where it says Saunders and Caje "try to prove that Kirby, for once, is innocent." :-)
Yeah it was a really good one I've watched it several times. seeing Doc as an MP was really funny!
Does anyone know, was that before he was cast as Doc? Or was he playing the MP too? Either way, yeah, that was funny!!
I think it was before... but i don't know that as a fact.
that must have been fun on set w/ brothers messing with eachother off set.
yep thets why I dun did right it.
I was watching COMBAT! last night and I was thinking how the whole crew did a really good job; like, the people who did the explosions for the show, the set designers, etc.-- kind of the behind-the-scenes people. Just like the "expendable crewmen" :-) Without them, there wouldn't be much of a show!
oh yeah! they is sooooo cool! They soooo deserve to be given metals.
My favorite explosion is in "Glow Against the Sky" when Sarge blows up the fuel depot. Those oil drums were a raging inferno with some of them rocketing off fifty feet into the air! Awesome pyrotechnics!! They tried to do similar explosions in a few later episodes, but it just wasn't as good.By the way, I have gained a new respect for "The Walking Wounded" because I was feeling in a life lesson Combat episode kind of mood.
That's neat :-) I can't really recall seeing him in a COMBAT episode so I'll watch for him--I don't think I've seen "The Sniper" yet.
Something else that I really like about the show is that I feel like I learn a lot from it. History, of course, is probably the main thing, but there are also so many other "lessons" that one can take away from it, if one wants. Like resourcefulness, for one thing--I definitely think seeing the guys create their own solutions has been helpful to me too :-)
Yes, very true! And usually poor Saunders has to try and keep things in control :-) But, yes, the different personalities, both with the regulars and with the guest stars, is really fun to watch and see what a particular character will bring to the squad/show.
I'm back :-)Last night we saw "The Hunter," and I think the book says it's the show with the smallest cast? (Just 4 people, I think.) That was kind of interesting, because there are other episodes where it seems as though the "cast" is smaller, but it isn't really--for example, "A Sudden Terror," which I think is the one with the quicksand. It seems like a smaller cast because it's mostly just Hanley and the guest star who get most of the screen time--but there are actually quite a few other people around in the beginning, too.
And then there are other episodes where there is only one of the regular members for most/all of the story. Sometimes those are good for showing character development too, though :-)
it's just that there is only one
I like "The Hunter" a lot. Saunders and Kirby are the only two regular characters--plus two others.By the way, I don't know what that last line on my last post meant. I probably forgot to delete it :-)

1. I can't pick that don't make me!!!!
2. Robert Duval
3. SHUT UP KIRBY!!!!!
(2nd fav I like to think its just trees and fresh air)
