Melissa (mejojac) | 50 comments I know it's summer and everyone is busy, but if you have a moment I'd love for you to play along with my little game type thingy :)
I want to know the last book you read and if you'd give it a thumbs up or thumbs down (if you want to give a bigger explanation on why you did or didn't like it, that's fine, but for those that don't have the time to write more, just give it a thumbs up or down ;))
Then I want to know the book you're reading right now and if it's thumbs up or down so far...
Finally, I want to know what book you're hoping to pick up next!
So, I'll start...
The last book I read was "Airman" by Eoin Colfer. 2 thumbs up on that one :)
I'm currently reading "Farworld: Water Keep" by J. Scott Savage. 1 thumb up so far.
Next I want to reread "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins so that I'll be ready for "Mockingjay" to come out in August.
There we go... past, present, future. Anyone else want to play along??

Elizabeth (emarsh13) I'll bite! Sounds like fun.

Last book: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (TWO thumbs up!)

Present Book: HP & Order of the Phoenix (Two thumbs up)

Future Book: HP & the Goblet of Fire

My husband and I are racing through the books, and although I gave him a three book head start, I've caught him and have to wait for him to finish book four before I can read it.

Beth A. (bethalm) | 67 comments I just finished The Gift of Asher Lev I'd give it one thumb up, I really liked My Name Is Asher Lev much better.

I'm currently reading Atlas Shrugged, so far it gets one thumb up, the pace is a little slow. It has potential, I'll see how the rest of the story turns out before I make a final judgment.

Next up is Warbreaker. A friend just dropped it by for me today.

Emily Eastman | 9 comments I just finished To Kill a Mockingbird I give it two thumbs up.

I'm curently reading Twice Upon a Marigold (??? on the rating, I haven't really started it yet.)

I want ot read Forest Born, Fang, and in August Mockingjay

Rachel (whitepicketfence) | 100 comments I just finished David Copperfield. I give it a thumbs up. There were some dry parts in the middle, but the ending was quite satisfying and as always with Dickens, I was inspired by the characterizations of nobility and light that shine through the human weaknesses and even fierce darkness of his time.

I am currently reading, The Admirable Crichton, which I just started but would give a thumbs up as J.M. Barrie's wit is already quite charming, and Inner Victory, which my oldest son suggested after become immersed and loyal to it in his first semester at college. Definitely a thumbs up, but then I am quite a pushover for the "know thyself" genre of non fiction.

Next, I am considering reading either, Rim of the Prairie, or [book:Excellent Women|178565. Would love opinions on either of those choices.

Gerald | 7 comments Currently reading (actually decided to abandon it this morning) Orson Scott Card's In Memory of Earth, obviously that is a thumbs down - one of my kids reads Card's stuff and recommends it, but 20 pages into it - I just didn't care.

Last read - Leaving A Legacy - one thumb. Perhpas the book is not for everyone but it is good for anyone seeing the golden years in the not too distant future and at the same time noticing holes in the bags they keep their gold in.

Next read - actually on the road and nothing in my 'books to read' list impresses me right now - will be heading to Barnes and Nobel to find something.

message 7: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (tesswhite) I just read Because of Winn-Dixie and give it two thumbs up.

I'm currently reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and Sword of the Rightful King: A Novel of King Arthur both of which get one thumb up so far.

Next I'm going to read Annie, Between the States.

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura (avid7reader) | 30 comments I just read Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale and give it two thumbs up.

I'm currently reading A Door in the Woods by James Dashner which gets a sideways thumb because the narration is quite comical but the story is kind of slow.

Next up is A Gift of Ice which is the sequel to A Door in the Woods

message 9: by Michele (new)

Michele Just read "The Gerbil Farmer's Daughter" with a sideways thumb. Not sure that's an option. It had a little more language than I care for, and some of the situations were not to my standards. Should have put it down, but got caught up.

Now reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma". So far 2 thumbs up. Really hard to put down.

Don't know for sure what's next.

Grace (gbarnes123) | 9 comments Just finished Dog On It by Spencer Quinn, a detective story told from the perspective of the detective's dog. Funny, although it does have some swearing. And also No Promises in the the Wind by Irene Hunt, our book club's book this month. Two completely different books. Thumbs up on both.

Currently reading Laura Bush's autobiography and a piece of fluff from Carol Higgins Clark. Also been re-reading some Agatha Christie, who I haven't read since my teenage years (many, many years ago). Guess what? She's still awesome!
I read a lot and I read it fast, so what I want to read is a long and lengthy list. I want to read the fourth Peter and the Starcatcher book. Avidly awaiting the next Ranger's apprentice book (come on October!). Everything else just seems like filler right now.

message 11: by Marla (new)

Marla | 45 comments Just read "The Necromancer" by Michael Scott. I love this series, but it is a little violent and dark, but no sex and language is pretty good too. Thumbs way up.

Now reading "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman. I love the movie too, so far book is great...thumbs up.

Plan to read, "Elephant Run" by Roland Smith

message 12: by Beth A. (new)

Beth A. (bethalm) | 67 comments I finally finished Atlas Shrugged. I'd give it one thumb up, but it's probably not a "clean read" due to PG13 language. And I did fast forward a few "steamy" scenes, although I heard they weren't graphic.

I'm now reading Boneshaker, which I am loving- so far.

Next up- a re-read of The Hunger Games, so I can read Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

message 13: by Becca (new)

Becca | 24 comments Just read Gregor the Overlander, one thumb up. I liked it well enough to be entertained, but it isn't the most brilliant MG book I've read.

Currently reading Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane which also gets one thumb up, same reason, but this one was a little bit better than the first, but also a little darker.

Next up...I have several different choice and I'm not sure yet which it will be, but probably Anne of Green Gables because I promised myself a beloved re-read soon.

message 14: by Mimi (new)

Mimi | 2 comments okay, last book i read was 'the host' : triple thumbs up!
book i'm reading now is 'midnight sun' : not bad so far,
next book to read is : 'the shining'

I just finished reading "Chasing Mussolini" which I uploaded to GoodRead. A friend of mine from Atlanta wrote it. I posted a 4star review on my GR book shelf.

She writes kids and YA books and can be found at. . .
