Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I saw the first of these books, Winterbirth, at the bookstore a couple years ago. It sounded like something up my alley, but I didn't buy it.

I just stumbled across it today. Still thinking of buying this one, but I have so much in my TBR shelf.

Has anyone read this series? Is it any good?

Laurel I've read the series, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Its a grittier coming of age fantasy story, with a few new takes on magic/race relations, etc. Ruckley also explores both sides of the conflict, neither being all good or all bad. The series has a few flaws, but I sincerely enjoyed it. I'm very curious to see what he will write next.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Sounds like it might be worth checking out. Thanks Laurel!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I'm curious about this one, too.

Caity (adivineeternity) I'm curious, too. I have the first book somewhere and I actually started reading it once. Only made it about 20 pages in, but it started off fairly interesting. I just don't like reading books in a series unless I have the first two at a minimum.

Weylin (wp204) | 1 comments I really liked this series. VERY gritty and dark. It is a little wordy at times, but for some reason after reading Winterbirth I was totally drawn to consume the last two books.
