Karen How many out there remember this book from their childhood and how many were postiviely influenced by its message? Its an American classic. I don't know of any other books that Watty Piper wrote, but this one made an impact on me. I still have my worn and stained old copy.

Cherished by readers for 60 yrs, The Little Engine Than Could is a classic of childhood. This special anniversary editiom contains the comeplete and original texst and artwork". omg the "First Scholastic printing, April 1993". I have the 60th Anniversary adition

Geoffrey I envy you guys. I don`t have my original copy, but yes it was the best motivational tool in my life. After more than half a century, it is one of three of my favorite books from childhood, the other two being THE WHEEL ON THE SCHOOLHOUSE by DeJong and A WRINKLE IN TIME.

Cherry Maple I still have the book that I had as a child for my children. My brother used to read it to me before bed.

Karen This is one of the books that I buy for new babies. I think that the message about trying and believing in yourself is so important. And, it is an early example of self-talk. "I think I can" is also important - you don't have to be superhuman and "know" that you can do something before you try, it is enough to "think" you can.

Alana I wonder if I still have it? If not, my mom might in the "future grandkids" stash somewhere. That was such a sweet, inspirational book!

Miriam I love this book. I read it as a child (maybe in school, or at home - I don't remember!), and loved the message back then. Perseverance..keep trying. Never give up. It is such a relevant message for me. Now that I have raised my children and am a grandmother, I relish that book. My own kids loved hearing me read it, and now my grandkids sit on the floor of our family room/den and turn the pages, looking, pondering... I just could watch them for hours the way they take in all the colorful pictures, and the way they listen to the lilt of my voice or their moms' voices reading the book to them! I guess you could say I love this book!!!!
