Vampires, Druids and Tudors, Oh My!Amazon description:
Desperate to defeat King Richard III and gain the crown, Henry Tudor made a pact with the Druids binding him and his heirs to the Druids' struggle against vampires. Ever since, the Llewellyns, a vampire- slaying family, have been in the king's employ. Now Henry VIII reigns, and his father's bargain has been almost forgotten-until bloodless corpses turn up in the king's bedchamber. To save the king, Vampire hunter Rosalind Llewellyn must form an uneasy alliance with Druid slayer Sir Christopher Ellis. But soon, Rosalind must face an unthinkable truth: that her sworn enemy may be her soulmate...
Aly wrote: "Seriously??? Seriously?!! Someone wrote a book like that??"There's been a whole spate of these mash up books. The guy who wrote the Queen Victoria Demon Hunter has one coming out on ole' Henry and werewolves I think it is. If you go to Listmanias and search for one called The Monster Mash you find quite a few there.
That's horrid. The vampire craze of today is pathetic, and then someone goes and hacks vampires together with Tudor history? Pathetic.
Darbus wrote: "That's horrid. The vampire craze of today is pathetic, and then someone goes and hacks vampires together with Tudor history? Pathetic."Oh they've done spin offs off Jane Eyre, Jane Austen, there's one coming out on Romeo and Juliet, Robin Hood and the OZ books.
Make. It. Stop. Now.
I don't mind a good vampire read now and then but really???? ITS GETTING OLD. And I feel like it's all because of Twilight which just makes me sick.

I love vampire stories in their more traditional form... "Dracula" was of course brilliant, and this sort of new-fangled cheap trash is an insult to those other, much greater, vampire stories out there! I wish all this junk would just fall into a black hole or something. :(

Absolutely agree. Although there is a part of me that wants to read it just to see how awesomely bad it is. That part of me is fighting with the responsible side of my brain that is telling me we shouldn't even give that author the satisfaction.

I thought that the only Jane Austen take-off was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which I've heard is actually relatively good, but have yet to read. Then I did a search to see what else there was and immediately regretted it. I located this list: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/56..., which I thought was interesting. Furthermore, this blog post: http://justinelarbalestier.com/blog/2... has an interesting take on an aspect of this.
I get really worked up about Jane Austen take-offs. I have to avert my eyes from entire shelves in the bookstore so that I can't see that junk. I refuse to read any of them, on principle. I get equally upset by poor movie adaptations of Jane Austen stories. I'm just a purist, I suppose.

I did not like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I thought it was weak on the satirical front and really just distracted from the original work.

So I expect you all to make fun of me but this one I actually just added to my TBR. For some reason, this one sounds like a fun read to me. The Kiss of a Rose one doesn't. Maybe it's because I'm just intrigued to see how AB is written as a vampire? And bringing George and Mark back to life? Love it. I want to see who she takes out her revenge on ~ I'm guessing Henry and her dad but who else? Definitely not expecting great things from the book but it made me smile, whereas the Kiss of a Rose one made me roll my eyes.
Keep us informed. I tried that Queen Victoria Demon hunter one and couldn't get past the first chapter :/
Michelle wrote: "Darbus wrote: "I thought that the only Jane Austen take-off was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which I've heard is actually relatively good, but have yet to read. Then I did a sea..."same here Michelle. In fact, I didn't even finish it.

I like a good urban fantasy or paranormal book, but some of these just seem so much like "jumping on the band wagon" type books. I would much rather read something more original.

I am interested to see what you think Jennifer.
Hahahaha, I laughed a little when I opened up that link...its a laughable inbreeding of genres that should stay distinct... and may be be good in their own right, but smushed together it's blasphemy, just as the title suggests!I think that the Twilight/vampire fad has a little too far. When will it end?
Marylou wrote: "I guess the vampire fad will stay as long as people like to read about blood sucking. Maybe it is really tasty. I don't know."Perhaps its the sexual and forbidden nature of the thing, but I think it's mainly driven by young Twilight fans! I myself am not much of a fan of the series, and I try to avoid vampire fiction like the plague, though I'm aware there are plenty of good ones out there!

I, personally, do not think vampire blood sucking is a sexy turnon, but evidently some people do. LOL

I can't stop laughing and i have to go to bed.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was surprisingly good! I don't like the classics but I enjoyed this version as a bit of fun! On my shelf I admit I do have a few of the blasphemy titles waiting to be read!Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls by Steve Hockensmith
Mr. Darcy, Vampyre by Amanda Grange
Henry VIII, Wolfman by A.E. Moorat(LOVE the cover!)
Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith
Jane Slayer (keeps coming up as Buffy when I use the add books thing)
I really like vampire novels. And I would have liked the Twilight series if Meyer could write (although I read Midnight Sun by her and if she had written all of the books from Edward's perspective, it would have been a MUCH MUCH better series IMO). ANYWAY. Jennifer, I may have to read that one too just for giggles LOL

And don't forget Emma and the Werewolves: Jane Austen's Classic Novel with Blood-curdling Lycanthropy.

Yeah, see, and I love the classics so maybe that's why I just thought it was awful.

I think I would like Zombies instead of vampires because I never liked sucking blood. LOL Actually I cannot imagine reading any of these books when there are so many really good books published.

To be released next month. A cheap way to capitalize on the popularity of the Tudors and this intollerable vampire craze.
