Hi I'm Tasha and I am also one of the moderators. I enjoy reading a variety of books, I have many favourites such as paranormal, chic-lit, mystery.

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm Stefanie. I read across genres except for romance. I love classics and contemporary literary fiction. I'm in library school at the moment so my participation may be spotty but I hope you'll keep me anyway :)

message 3: by Blair (new)

Blair (stands up a la an AA meeting) I'm Blair.
crowd: Hi Blair!

I'm a bookaholic. I just can't live without bookahol. I try to give everything a chance, but, I can't get my head around anything that resembles "paranormal romance". I think just plain old regular romance is fine enough. I feel like I can readily admit that I am a book-snob. I will try to keep my heavy-handed opinions to myself. I will try to keep up with the group if there are suggested readings.

I'll read just about anything, and I like giving anything a chance.

Welcome! Have you read Sizzling Sixteen yet?

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8 comments Hello! I'm Heather and I am really open to all genres of books.

At the moment I seem to be on a journey through the science book section of the library :) but it's turning into Autumn here and the nights are getting colder which means soon I'll be hankering for a good mystery or Gothic story to get lost in late at night, sitting in front of the fireplace, with a cup of hot tea.

Welcome Heather!

Let us know if you find some good mysteries!

message 20: by Hazel (new)

Hazel (ahyiena12) Hi everyone, i read a lot of book-mostly NS, chic-lit-romance-humor-inspirational. i will give any book a try. Horror, Fantasy and Thriller are not really my genre, it [sometimes:] creeps me out hah.

message 21: by Karen (new)

Karen (karen2023) Hi, I'm Karen. I tend to be drawn to autobiographical and historical stories, but I'm willing to try most any genre. Great stories with characters that I care about, that's what will get me everytime.

Hi Karen,

Welcome to Bookends! What was your favourite or most interesting historical and autobiography that you have read?

message 23: by Karen (last edited Nov 08, 2010 09:40PM) (new)

Karen (karen2023) Thank you, Tasha! I don't think I can pick just one as a "favorite" - there are so many great books out there still to be read! =) I will probably always think of Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation as one of the best of the bunch. Right now I'm very interested in the work of Daphne Du Maurier, having read Rebecca this past summer. Wow. If I had to rate my favorites of all time, this book would have to be at the top of the list.

Tasha | 239 comments Mod
Glad to hear you are interested in the work of Daphne Du Maurier (perfect timing) as I'm sure you know we are reading Frenchman's Creek by her. I hope you will join us in our discussions for this book in December :)

Hi, my name is Lindsay. I'm probably taking on more than I can handle with this group, but I just can't help it!
I am a full-time parents of two young children, not to mention the other job that actually pays, but I always make time for books. I'll give any book a try, as long as I always have something on the go. My favorite genres are mystery, fantasy and science fiction.
It's a little late in the month for me to read this month's selection (though I'll try to squeeze it in next in line).

message 29: by Karen (new)

Karen (karen2023) Hello, Lindsay! I recently joined this wonderful group myself, and I can tell you that you'll won't regret being a part of it!

Thanks guys! I feel welcome already :)
I'm almost finished my current read, and the tea rose is in transit from the library. I had never heard of it before, and I love being introduced to new authors and stories, so thank you!

Hi Lindsay,

Welcome to our group! Everyone here is great! I just finished The Insider (loved it) and still reading The Tea Rose, I have never heard of this book or author but am glad that I have the chance to read it this month, I am enjoying it so far! Most of my reading is done on my way to and from work, I only have one young son and he sure keeps me on my toes but like you I find the time to read, It takes me away from reality for awhile!

message 33: by Lindsay, Moderator (new)

Lindsay (ltg584) | 478 comments Mod
My husband doesn't understand my love of reading, but at least he accepts it. It certainly does help to escape reality every now and then :)
I just received The Tea Rose from the library, and I had never heard of it either. I'm looking forward to it. My library doesn't carry The Insider! I wonder if I can request them to get it...

message 34: by Jerron (new)

Jerron St. Armand | 1 comments Hi I'm Jerron
I read more now than I used to because its relaxing, and playing video games just make me upset. I like mostly non-fiction although James Patterson has been fun to read recently.

message 36: by Kim (new)

Kim Martin Hi all,

My name is Kim and I came across your book club kind of by accident. I like your book choices and would be interest in following along. Sounds like you have read some great books. I personally love all kinds of books...mysteries, young adult, historical fiction or non-fiction. It doesn't really matter as long as it's a good book. I would love to join you and hopefully pick up on the next read.

Hi Kim,
Welcome and thanks for joining our group. Looking forward to having you join our discussions and please feel free to recommend any books you would like read here!

message 38: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie Stanley (crigger5) Hi I'm Mackenzie,

I'm similar to Kim. I stumbled across this book club by accident and liked the book choices. I love all genres except chick lit and paranormal. Mostly I read Historical fiction, YA, and Contemporary Fiction, but I'll read anything suggested to be a good read. During the school year I mostly listen to audiobooks, but during the summer I read paper copies as well. I'm currently listening to Gone with the Wind.

message 40: by M.L. (new)

M.L. Hi Everyone,

I'm Luana - and I love your logo! Favorite authors, hm, that's a tough one because there are a number of them. But I do have a new favorite, as of a few days ago, Jan Guillot, after reading a Road To Jerusalem - and in one of my favorite genres too, Historical Fiction. As far as genres, though, when it comes down to it a great story in any genre with a hero you can really get behind is cause for much happiness! :O)

message 41: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin Welcome to all of the new members of the bookends:

We haven't picked our second reading for August, so feel free to weigh in. Also, any ideas for future reading is very welcome (I keep a running list).

Lindsey Thank you so much!

message 47: by Jackleen (new)

Jackleen | 7 comments Hi Everyone,

I am Jackleen and I love reading, I have a book with me at all times. Yes, this is a serious condition. My husband broke down today and went out and got 2 more bookcases for our bedroom due to massive piles of books on floor.
I read across most genres and what I am reading depends mostly on my mood. My absolute favourite genre is historical fiction. But sometimes I just feel like something light and funny.
Lately I have been reading Historical thriller mysteries. Found Heretic and Prophecy by SJ Parris, very good. Also discovered the Lady Grey Victorian mysteries by Deanna Raybourne. Love the characters. Currently reading the Distant Hours by Kate Morton, fabulous.
The great thing about book clubs is that people can suggest books and authors that I would otherwise never heard about; and, is it not sad to think that some where out there is your ultimate favourite book, but you have not found it yet.
Well, I am sure the search for that one book will be paved with many great and interesting stories.
