Good! Looking forward to cracking it open. Have you finished yet, Zoe, or are you still in the story?
For those of you who didn't get to see this post that Carin did about A Game of Thrones, check it out: http://unputdownables.net/2010/07/16/...

Yes! Zoe is my favorite person! I loved the book. I don't want to post any spoilers so I'll wait to see if people pick it up to read this month. I can't wait to talk about the crazy stuff that happens!
Who was your favorite character?
yes, yes, yes... I have less than 100 pages to go on Pettigrew (hope to finish tonight) then I start G of T.. you all can do spoilers, I'll just wait to read until I'm done (I can still post comments while I'm reading).
Okay ladies, I've just started. Am to Catelyn. Just saw them rescue the baby wolfies (who I hope nothing bad happens to or this will quickly become a weeper for me).

In this book, Ned...hands down. I loved him. I love it even more that Sean Bean is playing him in the HBO series! Why do I find that man handsome?!!
Of the kids, Arya and Bran are my favorites, but I also like Robb and Jon. Dang...you know, all the characters have something really compelling about them.
Zoe is right Dany and Viserys also have a really good storyline. Oh man. I wish I had time for a reread! This is so good. Should I sneak it in? :P

Yay! Let me know when you get to it. I want to know what everyone thinks of it! :)

Zoe, what was it that changed your mind about the book? I know a little of the way through, you were not as impressed and then the next thing I knew, you loved it! Awesome! Love it! I just want to know what/when/where it changed from being ok to awesome.
Yeah, I think Zoe and I are the only ones who picked it up, but that happened last time too. That's why I asked people if they would rather not have one particular book that we are all reading.
I'm curious as well, Zoe, because I am having a hard time getting into it. Then again, it is an entirely new genre for me, so I expected that to happen.

Oh man...that part was intense. I loved that part. I'm surprised you are having trouble getting into it, Wallace. I was hooked pretty much from page 1. When Bran catches Jamie and Cersei Lannister...that was the moment for me. Shocking! After that, I was like, "I cannot put this bad boy down!" I also really like the progression of Tyrion's character because he's pretty unlikeable in the book, but he's one of those I totally root for now. I like him A LOT!
I might not be far enough into it. I'm not sure I have gotten to the part that you talked about (am still learning the characters). I'm sure it is a fantastic book. I promise to give it more time.
I know the feeling of someone not getting as involved in a book that you loved, it happens to me all the time. Hard to understand but then again that's the beauty of all these different genres, right? There's something for everyone. :)

Tyrion is my favorite character in the whole series but I'm an admitted sucker for the anti-hero. I like Jamie & Dany a lot as well.

GRRM is a brave feat for a newbie to the fantasy genre. If you are interested in fantasy but might be finding the epic scope and breadth of his work hard to get into, I could recommend a bunch of stuff to you....

I actually think this reads more like historical fiction than fantasy--at least the first one does. Oh well. I'm fine with people not liking it or being able to get into it. I read pretty broadly so I know there's too many books out there to waste your time on something you can't get into. I say just move on if you aren't enjoying it, Wallace! :)

I agree with you. The first one does seem more historical than anything else. You get the "fantasy" parts in the subsequent books. I also agree that if it doesn't rock your boat, don't waste time on it! Life's too short to waste on crap you don't like....

My friend Andy is getting into it. I told him how highly Carin recommended the book series. Are you watching the show, Zoe?
