Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

Growing up, I always enjoyed reading. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized that I didn’t just enjoy reading, I loved it. I think the books that I read as a child influenced the love that I have for reading now. So I’m taking it back a few years to show you guys the books that I loved as a child.

Nancy Drew- To this day, I will read a Nancy Drew book if I have one. They are timeless and entertaining. Ditto for Hardy Boys.
The Baby Sitters Club- I always wanted to be a baby sitter (one who got paid that is). Sadly my parents made me babysit for free but I was able to live my childish dreams through this book.

You are right Nancy Drew is timeless. In my time I read a lot of Perry Mason. LOL

I've never heard of Perry Mason, but I just added one of the books to my tbr. Do your children enjoy reading, Katherine?

I wish they read more. My daughter who is 23 loves to read (she just joined GR). My eldest son enjoys reading about things, like airplanes, war etc. He did enjoy the Percy Jackson books. Daniel who is 7 enjoys anything with Dragons. Yes my kids are spread out in age, God has a sense of humor. LOL

I used to love law and Perry Mason had great stories. I also used to read a lot of Agatha Christie. I'm glad you enjoy reading so much Sashana. It's a great way to learn and to be taken on adventures.

Yes Nancy Drew is always a classic for me. Started reading her in the 4th grade but haven't read one since.

I read a lot of, "The Amazing Days of Abby Hayzes," and "Harry Potter."

When I was growing up in the 1950s, I absolutely loved the "Famous Five" series by Enid Blyton. My son still has a set of this series from when he was little. I admit to reading one occasionally. Probably trying to regain my youth !!

Carol, Ive never heard of that one. May need to look into it.

I read Mary Stewart books in middle school. They dealt with Merlin and I loved them. You don't hear about her any more.

Enid Blyton was a British author and so you may not have heard of her. She did write "Noddy" stories for very young children.

They had a PBS(Public Broadcast System) show with Noddy in the title I wonder if that was based off of her stories.

Yes this is the same Noddy. It is listed under PBS Kids on the following website.

I actually watched it with my kids and that's where I first learned what the word pilfer meant. I'd never heard the word before. It's a cute show. I'm sure the book series is too.

I absolutely LOVED Abby Hayze my mom had to force me to stop reading them because we would spend the money on the book and I would have it finished in an hour. LOL

I used to read the Point Horror books (it was always the nicest character who was the killer) and the Sweet Valley High series.

In Elementary School my favorite books were
The Girl Who Owned a City and Homeless Bird.

I reread those books so many times growing up, I lost count.

I know somebody said Nancy Drew and I completely agree. From third grade and up I became obsessed with them and to this day have about 70 of them on my bookshelf. I haven't read them since but have about 10 classic ND's that haven't been read yet so eventually I'll get to those.

I also used to love the Boxcar Children, Pippi Longstocking, Anne of Green Gables, and when I was just starting to read chapter books, the Cam Jansen series. I was totally into the Sabrina the Teenage Witch books when I was like 9 or 10, even though the themes and contents of the books were probably way too mature for me.

I've read Inkheart more times than I could count and am about to read it again, I think. It was (read: is) my wildest dream come true and I still am captivated by the idea of books and characters being read to life. If only. =p

I was and still am a Goosebumps girl. I have every single goosebumps books and I am still collecting the new ones

Nancy drew, bsc, hardy boys all the way

I loved Enid Blyton, particularly the fantasy ones. Trixie Belden got me into mystery. The Sweet Dreams collection for teen romance.

I can't remember a time when I didn't like reading. I remember reading Beverly Cleary's Beezus and Ramona when I was first reading Chapter Books.

I read some of Nancy Drew, but I preferred Trixie Belden. We have a thrift store that sells paperbacks for 10/$1.00 that I go to as often as I can, and a few months ago I picked up the 3 Trixie Belden books that they had on the shelves. I also read the Sweet Valley High series and the First Love by Silhouette and Sweet Dreams collection once I started wanting to read romances and HEAs.

When I was 7, it was the Sweet Valley Kids series. When I was 9, it was the Nancy Drew Series. After that, I became obsessed with Harry Potter.

There were other books too, such as Dealing with Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede and the other books in that series. There was also this book by Bruce Coville called Into the Land of the Unicorns that I would read over and over again (I really loved unicorns when I was young).
