Sashana One of the things that I dislike most about Twilight is the idea of Bella. If you really think about it she’s not a very good remodel for girls. She met a guy and within a week she’s in love with him. When the guy leaves she stops acting normal for months. I get that it was true love and blah blah blah, but girls seriously don’t need her as a remodel. We need girls who can do without the guy, and maybe even kick some serious behind.
In your opinion, who is the strongest female character you’ve ever read about?
I think Rose from Vampire academy would be mine, also Eugene from Storm Born.

Katherine I don't know I like a guy by my side. I wouldn't want to not have someone in my life to share it with. You can be strong and still love the man of your dreams.

Katherine, I'm not saying that they can't have a guy. I'm just saying that the character has to be strong enough that if anything happens to the guy she won't throw herself off a cliff (another thing Bella did).

Katherine I agree Bella went to extremes. She was the one character that bothered me. Mostly because she had two great guys and was leading Jacob on.

Lauren | 931 comments The strongest female in a story I've read was definatly Sarah Starvinski from Sarah's key. She has survived so much and I would have liked to sit down with her in a cafe and hear her story in her own words.

Heather | 504 comments For me, one of the strongest women is Lt. Eve Dallas of the NYPSD. Not only can see kick ass, but she stands up for those who can't. J.D. Robb does a great job in every In Death book she has written and at my lowest, Dallas was there to help..

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I would Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore. She can fight and she's got special abilites too. In Graceling people with 2 different color eyes are considered "Gracelings" and they usually have some special abilities called "Graces" to go with that. Katsa's abilities make her the ultimate weapon, but sometimes ones Graces aren't so easily defined. One of my top 10 favorites from 2009.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I recently read Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward and I think Xhex would definitely qualify as the strongest female character I have read about to date.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments She is a good choice. I loved that book. *sigh*

Me too, Lisarenee. In fact, John Matthew follows closely behind Zsadist as my favourite in the BDB series.

Ohh I forgot about Katsa! I choose her too.

Angela (angieerickson) | 338 comments My favourite was Cat from Night Huntress. We watched her character quickly mature and kick some serious ass.

message 13: by Arch (new)

Arch | 133 comments Alyssa Locke from Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters series.

She's a tough cookie and I like that about her.

message 14: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Arch, Haven't tried any of Suzanne Brockmann's books may need to. So what is Alyssa's career? I'm guessing it has something to do with guns because the series is called Troubleshooters.

message 15: by Arch (new)

Arch | 133 comments Lisarenee,

Alyssa was in the Navy. She's a sharpshooter. She worked for the FBI, after leaving the Navy and now she's the Executive Officer for a security team started by her husband's Navy Seal boss. Both men left the Seals, because of something that happened.

Alyssa is her husband's boss. It's cute. Tom is the owner, Alyssa is under him and then Sam. Other people work for the company too. But that's the rank order.

Girl you took the words right out of my mouth. That's who I was thinking about when I read the first comment. LOL

Chelsey (hart94) | 12 comments I have to say that one of the best examples of girl power is Rose vampire academy.

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Chelsey, definietly! I would also suggest Katniss from The Hunger Games.

in the most of the series katniss is strong character until the last book where sudden fell apart.

message 20: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Well, yeah, but she held it together for everyone else in order to get the job done. You can't blame her and she was very strong..

message 21: by Eyterna (new)

Eyterna I've been reading a lot of YA and noticed a lot of women who are really...annoying, i'm sorry, they just never seem to be able to save themselves and rely on others, whilst the damsel in distress card can be proven useful at times, when it happens again and again in the same series you'd think, "Please, get a clue?"

But those i believe is like Heather and Chelsey wrote: Katniss from The Hunger Games and i strongly believe in Rose from Vampire Academy. Add Allie from Everlost and Max from MAximum Ride, we've for a few of my favourite girl characters who know their stuff and can more often than not, kick butt.

message 22: by Sans (new)

Sans JoYee, that's the definition of "Too Stupid To Live" or TSTL for short. TSTL heroines are one of my biggest peeves and will always drag down an otherwise wonderful story.

message 23: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Rose can kick some serious butt.

message 24: by Sans (new)

Sans Rose from Doctor Who?

message 25: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Nope, Rose from Vampire Academy.

message 26: by Sans (last edited Nov 18, 2010 12:44PM) (new)

Sans Oh! Sorry. ^o^ I've got a two track mind: historical romance and BBC TV shows.

I think Authors need to write more characters because their are so many women now a days with low selfesteem who have no value of their worth. these women need better remodels in their lives

Maybe it's a sign that many women now feel too in control. Too responsible, to burdened. So, it's just a fantasy- that someone will take care of you and remove your responsibilities.

message 30: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments Chelsey, I agree it's annoying. But, it just made me wonder why these books sell and what it means that people are so attracted to them.

You should read Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. It is filled with great strong likable female characters. The main character Bryn, her foster mother Ally and her friend Lake.

message 32: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey (hart94) | 12 comments ok i'll add it to list of books to read thanks sandra

message 33: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm taking back some of my girl power points from Katniss.

message 34: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 26 comments Yes, I definitely agree with Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy!
Tessa McClean - Something Witchy This Way Comes
Aria -Angelfall
Penryn - Captured

Adelina from The Young Elites is incredibly strong, even after being betrayed by family and friends because of a darkness inside of her. Her self pity and fear twists into a kind of fierceness that allows her to stand up for herself. She comes to accept the darkness and use it to her advantage, because her Elite powers feed on it :) If you haven't heard of the book, you should totally check it out! It's one of my current favorite series!
