Writing Haven discussion

I did a market test with 200 books. I found that this bit I added for those that read more romance than fantasy slowed down the beginning for the teens. So I made it into a prologue. What do you think? Did I do the right thing? I've posted both here:

I almost forgot - The main character's thoughts should be in italics - so some of this may not translate well...

Does anyone esle use italics in your writing?

I use italics, mostly for the characters thoughts but also if I am describing when she is a little bit... out of it. Like there is one really sad scene that is all in italics because she is so full of grief that she isn't paying any attention. Also used if I'm describing a memory.
