What's the best book that you've read recently?

I just finished "Unaccustomed Earth" by Jhumpa Lahiri and I loved it. I've never been a big fan of short stories, which is what this book is, but I did enjoy these. At the end of the first story I thought that I wouldn't like the rest because I didn't want the first story to be over yet. However, that was how I felt about almost all of them. I devoured the entire book. I highly recommend it.

Sheri | 2 comments I haven't been reading much recently, but the last book I had read is really good. "Fearless Fourteen" by Janet Evanovich. I liked this book just as much as the rest of the books in this series. As always I wished for more Ranger and Morelli. Also, in this book I liked Zook and Mooner. Neither of them have much to say but what they have to say makes up for it. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a good laugh.

I haven't read anything really extraordinary in such a long time. I guess I'll have to keep trying. *sigh*

Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer was pretty good. It's about what happens to the earth after a meteor crashes into the moon, moving it closer to earth, causing earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. It's in diary form, written by Miranda, a teen girl whose family is trying to survive with limited food supplies, no electricity, water, or gas. It's a little depressing, but it's good!

Rachel | 5 comments I am such a geek. I have to say the best book I have read was Phantom of the Opera. I love that book so much. More than the movie... any way I just can't wait til I get fearless fourteen.

Carrie (cahanbury) | 5 comments I wish I had an answer for this question. I guess I am in a sad, sad state since I do not.

Jennie | 1 comments I haven't read this too recently, but within the past year, I guess: The World to Come by Dara Horn. That is one of the best books I've read in the past five years. It sucked me in immediately with very likeable and complex characters. The writer has a wonderful ability to conjure up so many different worlds and people and make them all seem true. I recommend it highly.

Lorie (regal70) I just finished THE HUNGER GAMES yesterday...has anyone else read this? Wow...It's a post nuclear USA (like City of Ember) with a twisted, wicked government. The heroine is a 16-year old girl who is an expert archer and hunts illegally to feed her mentally ill mom and younger sister. What's not to love? Well, maybe the reality TV/Survivor thing. But I couldn't put it down!

Michelle I cannot pick just one. Here are some of my favorites from this year!

First two Hunger Games books (I didn't like #3)
Under the Dome (this is NOT a typical Stephen King book)
Matterhorn (Fictional, about Vietnam. Excellent)
The Little Stranger (Sarah Waters)
