Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I've read so many but I know there are a lot I haven't read so anyone got any fave medievals to recommend me for the ABC Medieval Challenge?

message 2: by Julianna (last edited Jul 31, 2010 06:31PM) (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 671 comments I just realized I haven't read many Medievals lately. Need to rectify that.:-) My current fav Medieval is A Bed of Spices by Barbara Samuel. It's a very unique and beautiful story of forbidden love with a strong historical element.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I see a couple I haven't read. Gonna check em out. Thanks

message 11: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I read Promise of the Rose (de Warenne Dynasty, #3) by Brenda Joyce and remember it being pretty good. I haven'te read it in a while and my tastes changed a little. I have The Prize by Julie Garwood lined up as a re-read via audio at the library, but there is a llllloooooooonng wait list. Isn't that amazing, considering how old that book is?

Abbey Macinnis (abbey_macinnis) | 18 comments Ooh, love the Coulter, Joyce, and McNaught books.
You can't forget by Claire Delacroix.
The PrincessThe BeautyThe HeiressThe DamselDream of Me/Believe in MeCome Back to Me

The Litton books, the last two, involve Vikings. They're a bit violent, but pretty good. :) I'm sure I'll think of more. Love these suggestions. There are some mentioned here I haven't read. :)

namericanwordcat | 591 comments If you want to go real old school, I like this book for some reason lol

The Taming (Peregrine, #1) by Jude Deveraux

message 14: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I love Jude Deveraux's old stuff. Love that one too, Cali.

message 15: by Abbey (new)

Abbey Macinnis (abbey_macinnis) | 18 comments Her Velvet series is old school, but I still love it. :)

message 16: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Goodness, I haven't read the Velvet series in decades. I remembered I really liked them. Like, didn't-want-to-put-the-book-down liked them.

Christine (Cagnes) (cagnes) Lisa Kay wrote: "Goodness, I haven't read the Velvet series in decades. I remembered I really liked them. Like, didn't-want-to-put-the-book-down liked them."

What books are in the velvet series? I didn't see a series by that name on goodreads.

message 18: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments I think they actually list them as Montgomery series for Jude Deveraux but I've always referred to them as the Velvet series...
The Velvet Promise (Montgomery #2) by Jude Deveraux Highland Velvet (Montgomery, #3) by Jude Deveraux Velvet Angel (Montgomery, #5) by Jude Deveraux Velvet Song (Montgomery, #4) by Jude Deveraux

FYI the 1st in the Mongomery series is The Black Lyon (Montgomery #1) by Jude Deveraux which takes place in a different time period. About their ancesters.

Thanks Pamela! I haven't read any Jude Deveraux yet & have had the Montgomery series on my tbr pile for a while. I really want to read them but it's kinda daunting since there are so many & "have to" read a series in order! I'm determined to get to them one day!

message 20: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Christine, I don't think they have a very complicated plot line (unlike A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin - which I am now in the middle of, and a series I know you have started), but they are a fun, fast read, if I remember correctly.

message 21: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14544 comments Although, I think they are stand-alones I do recommend reading the Velvet series in order because there are connecting characters and a sort of storyline that carries on through the series. The Black Lyon does not need to be read with the series.

Christine (Cagnes) (cagnes) Thanks Lisa & Pamela... I realize that many series can also be stand-alones, but if I know it's part of a series I have to read the books in order. Even if there's just slight connection with characters, places or storyline, it enhances the book for me.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading a book called A Knight in Central Park. I a quarter through. I laughed out loud a few times so far. It was free on Kindle. I like it a lot so far...... but I am easily pleased. Oh .... as long as it has a happy ending!

Khaoula (coukiza) | 5 comments Can someone suggest a convenient/forced marriage in a medieval frame ,just two strangers trying to figure out what does it mean to be married? or historical if no one knows about a medieval one?

Catherine Mefford | 42 comments Netherworld By Katheryn Le Veque is good. Don't know if that is exactly what you are looking for. She actually has a number of medieval stories that might be of interest.I know I've read more but, I'm having a senior moment right now and can't remember the titles.

By Arrangement (Medieval, #4) by Madeline Hunter By Arrangement by Madeline Hunter fits the bill.

In Bed With A Stranger (McJames, #1) by Mary Wine In Bed With A Stranger by Mary Wine. This one is a Highlander/Medieval romance.

This Is All I Ask (De Piaget, #7) by Lynn Kurland This Is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland.

Julie Garwood also writes some wonderful medieval stories. Some are focused on highlanders, but some are not, such as Saving Grace.

I am definitely checking those , also if you know some westerns that fit the bill , please tell me , i am looking for a book that happens after they get married or before and during it , i don't like modern but if you know some please tell me about them too , because i liked The Unwanted Wife.

As for Saving Grace, i am trying to finish it , but it's so frustrating .... :(

Thank you,
Khaoula

Cathy Spencer (cm_spencer) | 111 comments This may be totally wrong, but how about a medieval mystery series? I really enjoyed the Cadfael books by Ellis Peters and often the stories have romantic elements, depending on the supporting characters.

message 38: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I liked those, Cathy, and also enjoy the shows by BBC.

message 39: by Katie (new)

Katie Jaros (katiejaros) | 16 comments Would Outlander fall into this category? I've been thinking of getting into this series, after seeing the first couple episodes of the show and liking it-- but want to read the books before watching the whole thing. Anyone here read "Outlander"? Thoughts?

message 40: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Yup, it works, Katie. Good series.
