I really enjoyed reading this book. Very dark with her being "stuck" for so long and missing her daughter growing up and her husband thinking she took off. I have the next book and hopefully can get to it this month.
I liked this one too. I have been meaning to read the next one, but just havn't made it that far. I did like the guy that she grew up with and the mysterious guy following her around. I do wonder if anything will come of that.
You're right about it being dark. I didn't realize it was about the fae. For some reason I never got a good look at the cover and thought it would be vampires. I'm about 300 pages in and I'm enjoying it so far. She's not specific on all the different types of species, but I think I would have information overload if she were. One thing I've noticed is that there's really no good guys. Those that are helpful to Toby, also want something from here. Few characters do anything without motive. I hear that in the new book her writing improves.
I love doing that Angela, someone recommends a book, I automatically go to the library on-line and request the book before I forget.
I find when I browse GR I almost always have my library open on a tab next to it so I can check to see if they have the book. If I can't get it from the library I won't mark it at to read.
I've been good about not adding to my library list. I have a lot that I own that I want to get to first and I kept pushing them off because I'd end up with 30 books from the library at one time. Now I'm down to 2 or 3 library books.
I finished the book. I enjoyed it a lot, but I see where some people might be put off a little.
***Spoiler***
Did it seem odd to anyone else that Toby isn't the one that kills the bad guy? She didn't actually do much other than talk in the big finale scene.
The last few pages really read like a summary. I was a little put off at first, but then I got to the last paragraph and I liked how the author worded it. It made you want to experience more of Toby's adventures and to see how she continues to grow up.

I got an email that said this is avaliable for pick up at the library but it may still be a week or so until I get to it
That's okay Lisa. If you have a used book store you can check there, or see if your library does interlibrary loans. If not, then just find something you can read and let us know how it was on one of the discussion boards.
I was surprised my library had this one.

Haha. I think everyone's determined it's first book syndrome. That 2 is better than 1. Did you finish it Jess?
Over all I can only say this book was ok. I liked Toby's character and I liked the idea of how the knowes work. The "mystery" part was ok but not amazing in my opinion I had a feeling who the bad guy was and I ended up being correct.***spoiler***
I wanted her daughter to come back and she didn't maybe the next book
**end spoiler**
I am not sold on the next book though, if I don't have anything else on my list I'll read it but not dying to get to it
I started reading this today and am having a hard time getting into it. Does it pick up at all?Oh, and on another note...what's with the hand down the pants on the cover? I keep closing the book to look at the cover in curiosity.
I never even noticed that on the cover Stacia! As far as picking up I thought it got atleast some what better after page 50 but I don't know how far you are now

I was wondering that the entire time.
I didn't notice that on the cover either! I read the first two books in the October Daye series. First, what I liked: The world building was highly original and impressive, including the Fae politics, powers, etc. Also I liked the main character -- her strength, honor, practicality and humor. The storylines were a good mix of mystery, suspense, action, and adventure--with several scary, edge-of-your-seat moments.
And what I didn't like: the first book I thought was too depressing and dragged at points. In the first book, some good stuff should have happened in Toby's life to offset all the negative stuff (e.g. would have been great to see development of the verbal sparring with the Cat Sidhe king).
I thought the second book was better than the first book. It wasn't depressing and was faster paced.
If you don't finish it this month it's okay. Just get it done before December is over. Is it getting easier as you go? I got more interested as it went, but there was a point there where I almost didn't want to keep going. I'll read book 2, but it's not a high priority.
I skimmed the last 1/3 of the book just to be able to say I read it and can review/flag it for my read shelf. Not one of my favorites. Although, cats named Cagney and Lacey were a nice touch.
So happy to hear of another Toby fan!I have read all three books in the series and I did buy #4 at BAM today.
books a Million They're really good at putting books out early if they don't have a hard release date. They'll have a lot on Friday or Saturday before they come out. They're also really good about looking in the back for you where as my B&N won't.
Unfortunately for me, there isn't a BAM in Minnesota and they are closing the Borders near me....that leaves B & N or Walmart/Target. Hip Hip horray....
Yeah I'm from minnesota and had never heard of BAM before so I'm not suprised they don't have them in MN
Really digging this series. However, I'm thinking this second book is too obvious. (view spoiler)
Who knows, maybe it will take a huge twist and I'll be wrong.
