I assume that this means B&N will just change hands only, or is this a disturbing premonition like what's probably going to happen to Blockbuster?

TheThirdLie I hope they'll just be bought by someone else, it would really suck for them to go under. I don't buy hard copies of fiction books, but I still like going in there and browsing to see what I want to buy as an eBook.

I do hope that whatever company gets them will continue with nook support and doesn't get rid of the device in lieu of another one.

Eileen I just got my Nook last month and really loving it. I read the article(thanks, Stacia) and someone will buy the company. There is still allot of people out there who don't have a ereader of any kind. Whenever I go to my B&N it's always busy. I still enjoy going to B&N and checking out the books. Still nothing like the feel of a book in your hand.

Dixie (readerofthepack) There is a post from an admin on the Barnes & Noble forums:

"We would like to assure our valued customers that yesterday’s announcement has absolutely no effect on Barnes & Noble’s bookstores, our customers and our valued Members.  Our company is financially strong and the decision to explore strategic alternatives for the company is based on our undervalued stock price.  We remain excited about the growth of our digital book businesses and think we are well positioned to gain a significant share of this new market.  We will continue to deliver best-in-class innovation through our technology and retail stores and will remain focused on adding value to our customers’ book-buying and reading experience.  Customer service has always been a hallmark of our company. And as the nation’s top bookseller, we remain committed to our customers and our business and to the quality of our products, our services and the Barnes & Noble brand."

Tina (tmgfive) | 7 comments i love my nook as well and before my nook i bought most all of my books from b&n -the store and on line- have been a member for years- ialways assumed they were like the top book sellers- i too would hate to lose the stores-even with my nook i love to spend an afternoon wandering around the b&n store-its my dream to work at one part time when i retire in 25 years.

Eileen @Dixie, Thanks for the post. Makes me feel a little better.

@Amelia, great name! Still haven't named my Nook, have to give it more thought.

Sandra (sleo) Oh, it doesn't sound like they're closing at all. I think perhaps they over expanded with all the big fancy freestanding stores. Overly optimistic during the boom that was mostly artificially inflated.

I've had my Nook since February and love it. I'm always a little disappointed when the book I want to read isn't available in eformat, although I agree that it's nice to feel a book in my hands.

KimWin | 34 comments I love my nook and couldn't have a better reader. I think that BN is in better shape that Borders... I can't read a book anymore -> I don't like turning pages!! lol

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 340 comments Turning pages isn't my problem the problem is carrying the darn book...I love that I can carry so many book with me everywhere I go.

Sandra (sleo) I have heard so many rumors about B&N - Borders is going to buy it, they're dumping the Nook, etc., etc., etc.

I'm sorry that Borders is going bankrupt, but am certainly gratified that they're not buying B&N. Perhaps this will place B&N in a better position. I still love my Nook, and find it hard to believe they're dumping it since bringing out Nook color and since so many more books are available in eformat!

Carrie (Care) (care76) I thought they were just going to stop making the Nook 3g? The Nook wifi and color have really good sales.

Oh well, maybe that's true. That's the one I have though.

Jennifer (jenlynn97) Just read this article. Don't thinkt they will be going under, if they are spending this much on marketing.
