Well, it looks like The Stand won our poll. I thought I would start this book on August 22, that way it gives everyone time to get the book! I will post the Schedule as soon as I get my copy of the book. Happy reading!!

I have wanted to read this book ever since it came out originally in the 70s. This will be a great opportunity for me. I have ordered my copy from the library.
You're in for a treat. I love this book..Are we going to read the new edition, that's about 200 pages longer.. or the edition it first came out in?

That's a good question. I would vote for the uncut version (mainly because that is what I own, and it is easier to get nowadays, not to mention the full, "real" version). :-)
I was going to buy the book today but I'll hold off until we figure out what edition we're going to read.
The original, cut version isn't available anymore, unless you buy it used somewhere. For me, reading a cut or abridged version of anything is a waste of time.
I ordered the original cut version from my library already, so if we choose the expanded, I will have to buy it. Either works for me though.

I ordered this version:
The Stand: Complete & Uncut
It says it has 1,168 pages. This is the version I will be making the schedule from. Let me know if this works for you. BTW, the schedule will be a "Chapter" schedule, so we will read "X" # of chapters each week. so if you have a different version you can still read with the schedule, it may just be fewer pages per week.
Like Kathy says the original isn't available anymore and having read them both I definitely recommend the uncut version. It does read more fluently. And what's another 200 pages? :)

And it adds so much more in the way of details. Definitely well worth the extra time and pages! :)
I just ordered a used copy from Amazon. Hardcover, because I hate reading such long books in Mass Market (which seems to be the only other format The Stand comes in). With shipping, it was less than $4.50. So, I should be prepared to start reading soon. :)
Great find Loretta!! I am planning on getting the Schedule up sometime this weekend, and then we can start the 22nd. Then official Discussion leader for this book is going to be Andrea , but since she is going to have some tropical fun at the end of the month, you peeps are stuck with me for the first couple weeks...then Andrea will be rocking the discussions!

I think it will be a waste of time.
