I have been a fan of Rita Mae since I first discovered her and Rubyfruit Jungle way back when. Proud to say I own a signed copy of the original Daughters Inc edition.
I live in Charlottesville Va and so am a neighbor of Rita Mae who lives in nearby Nelson County. I have attended a number of her talks and book signings at Barnes and Noble and other venues(though none recently).
Own most of her books(except several I loaned out that never got returned lol).
Interestingly I have found that people either love or hate the Sneaky Pie books(I obviously am in the first group). Of course since they, and the Sister Jane books, are set in the local area that too adds to the appeal.
I believe she once said something to the effect that she wanted to be known as a writer, not just as a "lesbian writer" or a woman writer. And I think she has done that. With her mysteries involving animals with her historical novels(High Hearts and Dolley), as well as her autobiographical fiction like Rubyfruit Jungle, Six of One and Bingo.
And lets not forget about her poetry, her writing Manual(Starting From Scratch), and of course Rita Will, her delicious, rollicking autobiography.
I would say she is my favorite living author.

Antje (mrsmahoney) I have not read all her books, I read a lot of them a long time ago, probably more than 20 years ago( wich seems to make me quite old), but I never forgot them and funny enough, I still think a lot about them. Because I'm German I don't know all the english titles, but I loved Runnymead, and my dogs nickname is Sneaky pie!
When I read her books, it was when I did womens studies at uni, it was a fascinating new world for me, I was just developing my feminist identity and her books went straight to my heart and my soul!
But, Patrick, what you wrote , makes me longing to read all of it again, and this time in english of course!
