In light of today's events (meaning the launch of my new website created by the awesome Jennifer Sprague!) I thought it would be nice to have a place to post our blogs so that we could follow each other. Please list your blog below:

How do you follow a wordpress blog?

message 6: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (bookcrazyjenn) | 14 comments Mod
Brandi, there's really 2 ways, first if they have an RSS feed, you can subscribe that way, if not you can type in the URL for the blog into google friend connect thingy, and follow them that way. :)

Just a person (brandi12345678) | 95 comments Mod
I am maxed out for my add by url on my blogger dashboard-- is there another way to add by google connect? I have played a little with it, but not too much

message 9: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (bookcrazyjenn) | 14 comments Mod
Do you use Google.com/reader ?

message 10: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Isaacs (eisaacs) | 339 comments Mod
I'm checking it out, but honestly I don't even know what I'm looking at...and Jenn I just emailed you with a question :-)

No I use blogger.com dashboard and then it scrolls through my subscribed blogs. From there you can only add 300, but you can get around the system but clicking follow buttons if they have GFC or the top bar where you can click follow.

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (bookcrazyjenn) | 14 comments Mod
All your blogs will also show up in Google.com/reader and you an also follow more blogs, and blogs that are wordpress related. Though Elizabeth now has feedburner too so you can subscribe that way as well.

Thanks for inviting me, Elizabeth! Does anyone know how to post blog updates into your Goodreads status?

You know Kaitlyn, I have no idea I have never looked into that, I will tomorrow!

I just looked all though Goodreads "stuff" and I dont think that us poor souls who are not authors can have goodreads update when we blog update - though maybe there's a widget to put on the blog to do that, not sure.

message 17: by Kait (new)

Kait Ballenger (kaitballengerauthor) Thanks for checking for me, Jennifer. If only authors can post their blog updates, I think that's rather silly. I'll see if I can look more into it. I always want to participate the the blog hops that people do too, but most of those that I've seen are also only for authors. All this frustrates me, because I'm a writer, I've finished manuscripts, but I just haven't gotten picked up yet :-/ I could e-pub, but I'm holding out for traditional--I'm just not ready to give up on the paper yet.

message 18: by Kait (new)

Kait Ballenger (kaitballengerauthor) Also, if anyone could give me a follow, that would be fantastic! I've got a 100 Follower Challenge going on right now and I'm really trying to get my numbers up (my blog is new). I've got an agent reviewing my full manuscript right now, who loves to see writers who have an online presence, so it would really help me out.

Amy (blacksheepdances) | 6 comments Hello all! So pleased to have some new sites to visit...
I'm at www.theblacksheepdances.com and I try and focus on literary fiction, global poetry and especially translated works. But a few other genres slip in just at times.

I'm also hoping to get someone to kick my butt to keep working on my book. Hit a plateau and can't seem to move forward.

Amy (blacksheepdances) | 6 comments thanks Layla...this week has been more motivating. I went through and reread a first draft and tried to get my mojo back.

I'd really like input (hope this is the right place!):
I have a novel that alternates between two main characters (in different places) although by the end they have a connection (united by abandonment issues)...I'm doubtful that it will end with a romance, for now it's more a meeting of minds.

ANYWAYS, one character is really strong, the editor loves it, it has just a great'thing' going. The other character is weaker. Editor says lose the weak one and make it one character novel. ??? To me, what I was trying to get at was struggles to move forward faced by both.

I could conceivably do it, and I can imagine more directions the stronger character could go into, but part of his character is who he becomes when he has a human connection.

???? TIA
Amy

If you end up deciding to lose the "weak" character for this novel, you can always keep him/her as a MC for a future novel. Does your editor want you to lose the char all together, or just the POV. Just losing the POV, you could still have human connection, right? Hope that helps. I'm sure you'll find the right path!

Amy-- Is there any merit in the possibility of making the weak character stronger rather than getting rid of them?

message 43: by Amy (new)

Amy (blacksheepdances) | 6 comments Gene,

Thanks...that may work, initially I had already thought they were equally strong but the editor didn't seem to think so based on what she's read...I would really like to keep them, because I think the gist of the story is the relationship. I am going to go back to the introductory chapters and move forward with this in mind.
The thing with my male character being so strong is that I have alot of push-pull in the scenes, so they feel more magnetic. With the other character, I realize I lack that and need to build it in.

Thanks for your help!

Sometimes making a character stronger just means making them more active and less reactive. I say this without knowing anything about either character, but generally the weaker characters are the ones to whom things happen, rather than the ones who make things happen.
