I will be joining in. I shall try to read the rest of the series first though, if I can get it in. For those who dodn't know, Mists is the last book in a series started By Marion Zimmer Bradley and then in conjunction with and finally completed by Diana L. Paxson. There are 8 books (so far). In order of story (not publication) they are:The Fall of Atlantis
Ancestors of Avalon
Sword of Avalon
Ravens of Avalon
The Forest House
Lady of Avalon
Priestess of Avalon
and finally
The Mists of Avalon
I should clarify though, that reading Mists of Avalon without having read any of the others in the series is totally okay. Mists makes a great stand alone, you don't need to know anything going in to it.
I read The Forest House and Lady of Avalon but I didn't like them anywhere near as much as Mists. Have you read them all before Thalia?
I will join if the book is at my local library. I've been wanting to read the Mists of Avalon for years but for some reason or other it keeps getting pushed to the back burner.
LOL Maybe because it's almost 1000 pages?
I love big books but sometimes they're a little intimidating...

Hee! As long as it's a good read, I'm game for any page length. Something else always ends up grabbing my attention before I think of The Mists of Avalon.

I have them all now nearly so I'll be all set mid november to begin (Sword of Avalon comes out in paperback early November)
Thanks for posting these here Thalia. I'm glad that Mists is a good stand alone as I may get a few of the others read by January, but not all.
Sandi wrote: "Thanks Thalia..I have them all but only have read Mists of Avalon...is it important to read them in order? have you read them all? are other characters in the other books?"The books cover more than a generation so I'm not sure if the same characters are in all the books but I should think there would definetly be overlap and continuaty. Mists is definietly a stand alone should you choose, and I'm sure Forest House was too. I can't remember Lady enough to say. I'm really looking forward to this little bit of a fantasy binge, lol
Read this ages ago - I'm pretty sure I own a copy, but it may well be in the loft at my parent's house. Or maybe it has passed from my ownership. I'm not keen to re-read as I have so many books in my tbr list that is seems a bit of a waste to read something again... but this is a great book. I had no idea it was part of a sequence. I may have to start chomping my way through the earlier books in the series instead!
This read sounds like fun! I'm going to try to get a copy :)
Thanks Thalia...The fall of Alantis I dont have! must get that one...I thought the Priestess of Avalon was the last book & Avalon was after Lady of Avalon..so where dose the new book fit in coming out? I assume this is by timeline? always wanted to read these others as well.
I'm definitely in! I've been wanting to read this forever, but it keeps getting pushed back by other books in my TBR. Thanks for setting a date :)
I can't even begin to tell you why I love it so much... aside from saying it's HF, there's a love story, there's magic and history and drama and betrayal and friendship and... oh, it's just so fantastic! AND it's about Arthur!
We certainly do Lyn. We have to have some self restrain and not over commit again. aarrrrr...Its so hard.
Thanks Kate for the invite to this group I have ordered Mists of Avalon and look forward to reading it in January with you all. It just sound right up my alley can't wait to hear the flutter of a thousand pages in my hands!
I'm just glad I have two 4 hour flights in January so I can read it on the plane and hopefully those thousand pages will go by easily.I am so excited to read this! My friend is currently reading it and she adores it so much.
Karla wrote: "Thanks Kate for the invite to this group I have ordered Mists of Avalon and look forward to reading it in January with you all. It just sound right up my alley can't wait to hear the flutter of a t..."AWESOME Karla. So glad to see you here.
I cant wait to read it with you. Im going to ask for this one for Christmas. Its great getting lost in a mammoth book.
Ok all! I just rec'd Mists of Avalon and holy cinder block its long! I'm going to need an extra hand to hold it up HEAVY! Had no idea holding it will be a work out on my wrists. Kate I'm actually very excited to get carried away into it looking forward to reading a book written in a women's POV telling the story of King Arthur. Reading the back of the book has me hyped up to begin!
Oh I forgot to ask has anyone seen the mini series on TNT? I see it advertised on my book and was unaware of it. If it is good I'll have to rent it next year to supplement the story after reading it.
I didn't know about the mini-series either, Karla. I will have to check that out after we read the book.
I don't remember much about it but I did see it. It's not as good as the book but that's not surprising I guess...

I think I know the one you mean, there is a DVD based on Mists that stars Juliana Margulies called the Mists of Avalon. While I would find it very difficult to do mists, I think the show did a respecatable version of the book.
Ohhh! I started reading Mists ages ago and got wrapped up in it like a foggy dream... then all of a sudden woke out of it and never finished it. I so wish I could join in, but I'm getting married in January so probably shouldn't commit (no pun intended). However, considering length, hopefully in February the group will be at the point where I left off, and I could join in then?
I am going to join in with everyone for this read. Mists has been sitting on my bookshelf for a while now, so I'll be happy to read. :)Now I just have to not get the book and start reading now.
Paula wrote: "Ohhh! I started reading Mists ages ago and got wrapped up in it like a foggy dream... then all of a sudden woke out of it and never finished it. I so wish I could join in, but I'm getting married i..."Congratualations on getting married Paula.
Dont worry about missing out, some of us read like snails especially the big ones so im sure there will be a few still reading it in February
I have committed to three books in January so I may still be reading it in February myself! I hope to be finished though I usually read about 100 or so pages a day when I'm reading a long book. I set little daily goals like that maybe that's silly but I get mad when I fall behind my little goals....now if I would just set a goal to clean out the garage!

Congratulations Paul! Of course join in when your life settles down a bit :)

Congrats Paula, and don't worry, I, for one, am a SLOW reader when it comes to big books (ask Kate and Jennifer), so I'm pretty sure I will not be finished, lol.
Thanks, all :) Glad to find a group who is excited to read Mists and hope to see everyone in February! :)
In anticipation of reading Mists in January, I've started the series. I just finished The Fall of Atlantisand started Ancestors of Avalon last night. Anyone else doing some of the "prequels"?
Good idea Thalia! I didn't know much background info. On this book so I didn't read any of these. I'm busy with group reads I've committed to for December so I know I won't be able to.
I don't think I have time, Thalia, but I wish I could. I will have to go back to the prequels after, lol. But I have my copy of Mists sitting here ready to go for January.
I don't have any of the prequels and just don't have the time right now either. I can't wait for January to read Mists though.
Months away no longer, Tomorrow is January!!!! So who's in? I completed my mission to read the 7 prequels (done as of last night). I have one book club book to read (incidently it's arthurian too - The Pendragon) first and then onto Mists!!!!
I received this book for Christmas, so I plan to read along also, as soon as I finish my current book.
