http://holidayinsights.com/moreholida...

Start the nominations!!!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Does it have to be a whole month theme? If not, I want to nominate National Beheading Day. Love that one!

That's a fantastic theme! But you knew I'd love it ;)

Irene (irena47) | 53 comments I don't think my sister will be too thrilled when I tell her that her birthday is "National Beheading Day." Although, she does have a warped sense of humor! LOL!!

You can do whatever is associated with that month.

Ya - I couldn't resist. Just think what fun we could have nominating books to read.

Thanks Donna. Beheading Day is my nomination, then.

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
I know! I kinda based it on books that I would like to read or that may have more than one book involved.

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Hmmm... you've all already nominated the ones that I would have chosen so I'll go with Women's Friendship Day. Lots of good books about friendship :)

message 12: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollystoddart) Haha! My birthday is the 29th, little did I know it is also Confucius Day! I really like Beheading Day, and don't want to nominate a different one!

Voting will thus begin!

message 17: by Katie (new)

Katie Russell | 140 comments I guess I am too late I was going to go with the easy choice and nomiate labor day because you could go with both books on labor ie working class or books on labor ie childbirth. But national beheading day sounds fun.

OK so we will nominate books for the winning theme on Monday but I was also curious as to what yo guys want to do for the other book do you want to stick with any other book of our choice? Or the runner up theme?

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Either way is good for me.

Is anyone else reading Shanghai Girls yet? I can't wait to discuss this one :)

message 21: by Silver (new)

Silver Yes, I am nearly half-way done with it.

message 22: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Isn't it fantastic? When will a thread be set up for it?

message 23: by Silver (new)

Silver I am liking it more than I had thought it would. When I read about it, it sounded interesting, but it also seemed like one of those books on the fence that could easily go either way. I am surrprised by how good it acutally is so far.

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Jennifer you can start a thread about anything you want whever you want! If you are ready to discuss then go ahead and do so!!! ;-)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Jennifer - it is one of the next on my list.

message 26: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Bump it up to next :)

message 27: by Silver (new)

Silver It is a tough call. On the one hand I like the idea of having one theme read and one free for all, on the other hand I really like the two top things so I would not mind reading a book from both the winner and runner up.

message 28: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Well I will keep it as a free for all and if someone wants to pick a book from the runner up theme , that could work too!

message 29: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
OK guys start nominating books.

Please vote for the winning theme which is Beheading Day and the 2nd category will be whatever you want!

Happy nominating!

message 30: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I'd like to nominate The King's Rose by Alisa M. Libby, which is about Katherine Howard (fifth wife of Henry VIII) for the Beheading Day theme. And for my second nomination, The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson.

I am still trying to think of the first category but I will nominate for the 2nd:

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

message 34: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments It looks so good and has such great reviews! I bought it a few months ago and really want to read it. If it's a group read, I'll have to, right? lol

message 37: by Irene (new)

Irene (irena47) | 53 comments I like Jennifer's idea of focusing on Katherine Howard. I would like to recommend The Sixth Wife by Jean Plaidy.

message 40: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (crescentgaia) I'm seconding Jenni for The Other Boleyn Girl. I would like to second Jonathan Strange abd Mr Norrell for the second. Both have been in my physical to read pile for a while.

message 42: by Silver (new)

Silver Since The Other Boleyn Girl has been nominated, I will nomintate The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers by Margaret George

And for my free nomination

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck since they reference the movie in Shanghai Girls, it has put me in the mood to want to read the book.

message 47: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Lyn how did I know you would nominate the Reay Tannahill book??? LOL

I am shocked people aren't freaking out and overnominating Anne Bolely for national beheading day. Thank God.

I want to nominate The Rose Without a Thorn: The Wives of Henry VIII by by Jean Plaidy since I have been in the mood to read it after I read Snowflower and the Secret Fan and Shanghi Girls.

message 48: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (crescentgaia) I'm really going to be happy no matter what the book. There are good Henry VIII books that I didn't know about.

Colleen - I think that people aren't overnominating Anne due to her being a safe choice. I just haven't read the book yet for some reason.

message 49: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Colleen, Will you be nominating another book? You always seem to have everyone's interest! ;-)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) LOL Colleen, how did you know?? Actually, I also considered Rose Without a Thorn, but Fatal Majesty has been on my mind lately for some reason, :)
