Don't mind the cover, a lot of great books have bad covers, but are really good. I just finished the 3rd one over the weekend and it was really good.
I think there are a lot of books out there with HORRID covers, but great stories. I try not to judge any more as I have run across a lot of them.
Tairen Soul book 1 has one of the cheesiest and that series is in my top 5 of all time.Ereaders help a bit with the embarrassing cover issues.
These are great books! I really loved the last one Twice Bitten. I think it was the best so far. I think anybody that likes UF should give them a try. They are similar to Kate Daniels in the romance department. I cannot go by covers and titles anymore. I would never have read some of my favourite books if I did! My mom bought me my first Wheel of Time book over 14 years ago and they are still my #1 favourite series. Nothing can even come close it them for me and I never would have picked the series up if not for her. The covers are horrid. I seriously hate them. :( I just hope and pray that next year after the series is over, they release a box set with new covers (or the ebook covers would be nice).
Back to Chicagoland Vampires, if you like UF try them!
Someday I will read Wheel of Time. It's been on my list forever. I think that fantasy and sci-fi have a long way to go in the cover department. If you like fantasy and romance, you have to give Tairen Soul a try. It's a good combination of both. And I will start book 1 of Chicagoland hopefully this week or next at the latest, so I can contribute actual conversation to the thread.
Holy cow, most people that read UF/PNR don't even know what The Wheel of Time is! You have to at least try it, it is amazing. I have the first Tairen Soul book and used it for my T read in the DELIRITY challenge. so I will let you know what I think when I get to it!
I just got these in from the library as well. I should get to them this week. All because Carrie has been pushing how good they are. ;)
You two haven't read Chicagoland yet? Wait Dracy has. You mean WoT? I am so confused, are my roots blond?
I liked book 1. It was very entertaining. I wish there had been more action, but it's more of a drama. That's okay though, I just expected it to be different. There were a few questions I have though...
***Spoilers***
Why was the other guy able to speak in her head? I thought only their maker could.

I don't think I even know why Heather. Unless I'm forgetting. I thought it was weird though. The third book has a lot more action than the first two. I still really liked them all, though I liked the third the best.
Here's a section of lines I liked from book 2 (p. 239):
"'Is there anyone who isn't infatuated with you?'
I smiled at him, with teeth. 'If not, it's because you haven't assigned them to me yet. Mata Hari at your service. Would you like to add him to the list?'
'I don't appreciate your sarcasm.'
'I don't appreciate being handed out like a party favor.'"

The chapter titles are usually pretty good. Darcy wrote: "I was talking about the Tarien Soul books, but it could also be said for the Wheel of time books."
Do you know if I get somebody to read The Wheel of Time series, I would almost die from happiness? Stephanie (I don't think she's in this group) has been saying she plans on reading them, but I know she hears about the series from her dad as well. The thing is nobody ever (of my girlfriends) reads them because they are so different from UF and PNR. But two of my sisters husbands love them, and my lawyer (when he saw me reading one in his office) said it's his favourite series as well, so I have some people to obsess with.
^^Thanks for the tip about the group! I have been reading mostly UF and YA books lately too. I did read more fantasy last year, as I wanted to read Brandon Sanderson's work before the last WoT book came out (after Jordan died he took up the task of finishing the series off). Thankfully he is brilliant and Jordan had many parts written and recordings of everything.
Heather, did you finish Twice Bitten, or did you just start it?
Just finished. Let me just say...
Much better!!!!!
The author finally got to the place I wanted her to be with her writing. The action was bigger and better. There's still room for adding more if she wants, but she's done enough to satiate that aspect that I felt like was missing.
***Spoilers***
1) How great was it that the vamps have a drinking game around Ethan and his tendencies? I was busting up laughing.
2) Ethan screwed up big time! Why don't people just say that they need a few days to consider the ramifications of their actions rather than throw away a relationship before they've had time to process ALL the information? It would have hurt her, yes, but it would have been much easier to mend then the place he's in now.
3) We all know Merit will cave and I kind of don't like that. If a guy is willing to throw you away that fast there has to be something to learn from that. She'll make him suffer, sure, but he threw her away within minutes. That's not deserving.
4) Being a vampire does not justify being an idiot.
5) She kicked his ass. Classic.
6) Where the hell is book 4? I want it now!

GRRR!!! I'm seriously in need of the next one. Thanks Carrie, you just got me addicted to the newest form of crack!
Stacia, I haven't went to the library since I got my Nook. I was having the same problem, and I hated having to read something I might not want to at the time. But I didn't want to return it without reading it either.
Why oh why must they make us wait a year for the next in the series?!?!! Hard Bitten won't be out til next year and I'm a bit upset about it. Stupid publishing dates.
Just got the first in the series I love the authors writing style it has tied me in unlike Brightly Woven its good I want to read just to get to the point but it seems to have the Fallen and Beautiful Creatures syndrome and is moving really slow ooops that has nothing to do with SOME GIRLS BITE which i just picked up. LOVING IT :)
Omg, these books are amazing!Love them!!I have to agree, the third one is the best.
I love Merit's sarcasm and the way it gets on Ethan's nerves.
Probably only one since she's working on the Dark Elite series as well. I don't know for sure though.
I just finished book one and ordered books two and three this series is sooo under-rated and I can see it being a good movie as well as a good series. I think on her website it said the series will be 7 books. I cant wait I just ordered the rest of the series off line with a gift card that was given to me. What I will say is that her best friend and the sorcerer she likes are really annoying to me lol. I love Ethan and Merit but im weary of Morgan he can not be that stupid that he didnt know what his master was planning.
I didn't love the friends, but I get their significance. I didn't hate them either. They have good and bad moments for me. I find them to be highly necessary either way.
uugh stupid BN if it had been Amazon my books would have been here already how do I get express shipping order it on Friday and it didnt ship until sunday. SMH it better get here soon or im complainin >:(. :)
I don't remember either, lol. I remember Mallory was digging at Merit for Sullivan and Merit said something about Mallory's powers, then Mallory said something about Merit's daddy issues... That's about all I remember.

*Spoilerish*
When I read that about Morgan, I immediately thought he was the vampire that had originally tried to turn Merit. I know...its been blamed on some rogue under instructions from C, but C lies and Morgan was (and still is) hers. So maybe some of Morgan's vampire drool got into Merit and that is why she can hear him.
I like it too, the colors and scheme actually reminds me a bit of Estep's series cover:
, they must shop at the same stores. ;)
I love that in an q & a with Estep I mentioned that it was great she had a book with a V title for alphabet challenges and she was all, "hmm...maybe I need to consider this when naming my books."
(that's not a direct quote or anything, but the gist of her thoughts)

Someone should write to publishers and tell them that. If I had a so-so author I'd give them an odd letter so that all the alphabet challenge people would give it a shot. It would help increase their sales just because of desperate challenge readers. (Amazingly, there are more of us out there than I ever could have imagined.)

Yes, big time. I have to say this. My firends think I am off my rocker, but the name of this one drives me crazy! All of the books so far have the word bite in some form. This one doesn't and it feels off to me. I could always recognize what series these books went to by the titles, same with Night Huntress.
Since I am already raving I might as well post this here, but I heard the 5th Soul Screamers is If I Die, wtf? All the rest are My Soul To ____ ! I keep hoping it is the wrong title.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that they have to bite before they can drink deep?
It does seem off, but at the same time I think that it gets hard when authors do that because eventually you run out of things since you're restricting yourself.
