UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Since we read One Dance with a Duke in July, and Twice Tempted by a Rogue in August, I thought it only fitting that we finish off the Stud Club trilogy with Three Nights with a Scoundrel for September's Group read.

One Dance with a Duke (Stud Club, #1) by Tessa Dare Twice Tempted by a Rogue (Stud Club, #2) by Tessa Dare Three Nights with a Scoundrel (Stud Club, #3) by Tessa Dare

Mandy Glover | 576 comments as I've never read those, it sounds exciting and it will fall into my Sept challenge too! :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Mandy, I changed the title of your thread to reflect the Group Read.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments See, Katherine! We hooked you up!!

message 7: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments Sadly, none of these coincide with my "Spell September" challenge but do fall in with my other challenge of reading new authors!

Sigh . . .I really need to find the rest of those lettters!!

message 8: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments The only reason I was able to put my list together so quickly is because I have a Word Document made up and was able to search it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm really looking forward to this one especially after Twice Tempted!

message 12: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 828 comments I am too. This may be the best of the three.

message 13: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Everyone says it is! 7 more days! LOL Will this be your first September book?? I'm so anxious to get to it, I know it will be my first read for the month.

message 14: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments Have a question about this . . .If I begin the series with #3, is that going to be a total mess up? Normally, I'm a staunch "MUST READ SERIES IN ORDER" kinda gal, but I jsut don'tknow if I'll have time to read the first two before the discussion of # starts!

So . . .releive my anxiety! LOL!

message 15: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Book 1 is heavily about the Stud Club and Leo's murder. Book 2 doesn't have much to do with that at all, but there's new information at the end of the book regarding the killing.

Read book 1 for sure - it's a fun, easy read. Then if you want, skip book 2, you won't miss much (though I did like the story) and we can fill you in if you need us to.

I'm usually a die hard MRBIOs fanatic, but in this case I'd say you're fine not to read book 2, but you need to read book 1.

message 16: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments Okay . ..I have book one. Maybe if I skp the Liz Carlysle at my elbow, I can squeeze it in!

message 17: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments These are the sacrifices one must make if one hopes to follow the storyline.

message 18: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 828 comments I agree you need to read book 1 to get up to speed what the Stud Club is all about. But do go back and read book 2, it's a great story.

This will be one of my first reads of September that's for sure.

message 19: by Anja (new)

Anja | 12 comments Three Nights with a Scoundrel can be read by itself. The club is briefly rehashed and the bits about Leo are detailed enough for anyone new to the series. The characters from the first two books make brief appearances but are not intrusive.

IMO, this is Tessa Dare's best book yet. I loved Bellamy.

message 20: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Thank you, Anja! That's good to know.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I have started Three Nights already(I won't discuss yet tho)...I am hoping I can grow to like Julian. In the first to books he sort of rubbed me the wrong way for some reason, with all his fancy dressing and setting trends etc, kinda turned me off from him and in my mind made him a bit feminine. So, as I read, I have to change the image of him in my head. I am only 2 chapters in and liking the book so far, I will give you that much!

message 22: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments From what I've been hearing, most people find book 3 is their favorite, so I'm guessing that Julian will grow on you. ***fingers crossed***

message 23: by Anja (new)

Anja | 12 comments I'm one of the rare people that liked Bellamy from the beginning of the series. I do think anyone that didn't like him will grow to love him in this book. I am itching for everyone else to read it so I can discuss the best bits.

message 24: by Kate (new)

Kate (literarykate) | 95 comments I haven't read any of these but I think I can get through the first two in time to catch up with the third. Or even skip book 2 like UniquelyMoi-Dhestiny suggested. These challenges are getting so addicting but I find they're making me read a ton of books that I already own. :-)

message 25: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (last edited Aug 27, 2010 01:58PM) (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Kate, I'm glad you're enjoying them!! All of my Spell September and Build Your Own Challenge books are books I already own.... well, I did cheat and added Lora Leigh's Renegade to the list which doesn't come out til the 31st, but that means I'll own it before September 1st and that's all that matters! LOL

message 27: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Yay!!!! I've heard so many wonderful things about this book, I think this will be a great group read.

message 28: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments I just finished ODWaD and tessa dare cld quickly become a fave! I am on a quest to day for 2&3. It just goes against my nature to skip 2 if I can find it! Lol!

message 29: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Mandy, we must be twins, because it's the same for me. There are times when I've skipped a book, then in the next one I find myself constantly thinking - "did I miss something?" so it's not worth the distraction!

message 30: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments LOL! Exactly! On a positive note, I found them BOTH at my used bs! Off to read TTR now. Yay me!

message 31: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Nice!!! Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I liked it despite how much Meredith annoyed me. LOL

message 32: by Kate (new)

Kate (literarykate) | 95 comments Just bought Three Nights with a Scoundrel today. Now if I can just track down the first two at half price books...

Also bought Brenda Joyce's A Dangerous Love. Has anyone else read this or any of her other books? It sounded kinda similar to Lisa Kleypas with the Romany plot so I thought I would give it a try. Plus I love the historic mansion on the front cover.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

KATE- I have not personally read any brenda joyce books but have heard very good things about Splendor..and plan to read it very soon!

message 34: by Kate (new)

Kate (literarykate) | 95 comments Heidi, Spendor does sound really good. Maybe I'll check it out if I like A Dangerous Love.

message 36: by Kate (new)

Kate (literarykate) | 95 comments Thanks Carol. I knew it was part of a series but I couldn't figure out the book order by looking at the book list in the front of the book. Can this book be read out of order or is it better to start with The Conqueror? I didn't realize A Dangerous Love was towards the end of the series.

message 37: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Today at the UBS I grabbed:

Kate - 'A Dangerous Love' and the subsequent books feature the children from the earlier books who are now grown up, of course. They can, therefore, be read on their own but, obviously, the parents do play a part in these books and therefore you might want to read the earlier books first. You can start with the 'The Prize' which is the first of the books set in the 18th and 19th centuries. 'The Conqueror' is set in 1069, 'Promise of the Rose' in 1093 and 'The Game' in 1562.

message 39: by Kate (new)

Kate (literarykate) | 95 comments Good to know. I think I'll still read the one I just bought first since it won't really mess up the storyline. If I like it I'll go back and start at the beginning. :)

message 40: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments So when do we start the discussion?

message 41: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Start whenever you're reading, but be sure and mark spoilers, please!

message 42: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 828 comments I have to read my book club book first then I will start on this one. Can't wait.

Mandy did you start reading it?

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments *SPOILERS*

I absolutely loved this book.

In the previous books, I found Julian Bellamy a very unlikable character but, in this book, as details of his past which he had kept hidden gradually came to light, I found myself warming to him more and more and by the end of the book, I really adored him. This isn’t to say that, at times, he wasn’t an unmitigated ass particularly when he continues his investigations into Leo’s death behind Lily’s back and continues to keep certain secrets from her regarding his past.

However, it is obvious loves Lily deeply but feels his background makes him unworthy of her. Lily loves him unconditionally and does not care about his past.

I also adored Lily who was beautiful, intelligent, brave and warm-hearted. She never lets her deafness deter her and was willing to take risks such as attending a social gathering on her own. I also liked that she wasn’t afraid to tear a strip off Julian.

The resolution to the question of who murdered of Leo and why was quite a surprise and one I did not see coming.

The enjoyed the epilogue and I wonder whether there may be further books featuring Claudia and maybe Mary (Julian and Lily’s daughter) and Philip (Claudia’s son) who appear to have an aversion to each other.

message 44: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments I really enjoyed it. There were some times when I wanted to smack Juliean around (not as much as Rhys in previous book).

I'm sort of wishy washy on the murderer and all. I expected more of a blow up or something . .

message 45: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 03, 2010 04:50AM) (new)

Really enjoyed this book! Julian grew on me(I thought him to be a little fem in the other two books)...then when Leos secrect was revealed, my jaw dropped I was like OMG, I can't believe this! I seriously liked the way the murderers were revealed it was something out of the ordinary, not the same old same old...ya know?

Still liked Rhys the best! Altho i did end up picturing Julian as looking like Guilio...ha, can you imagine? me thinking that?

Heidi, I did like that aspect of it and how she explained it all.

I liked the first one the best ( i cannot remember his name! LOL!) I'm awful with names.

message 47: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm not reading posts until I read the book. Maybe 2 days from now?

message 48: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments I read it Monday.

message 49: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Ok, so I'm on page 197 and

*****SPOILER************
Julian just announced his...
ummm... conquests... at the
Ainsley's. WOW! He's so different
in this book, probably
only because we're seeing more
of him.
**********END SPOILER*************

I think this book is the best of the 3. It's very well written and I feel so much more invested in the characters than the previous 2 books.
