Stephanie Barko (steffercat) Hi Mike Cox-

You had written extensively on the Rangers before writing this volume.
Why did you feel the need to write another book on the Rangers?

How did you ever get your publisher to go for a book so long that it had to be divided into two volumes and released over two years?

I haven't yet read your latest book but I look forward to purchasing it when we join for a book signing at Haley Library in Midland, Texas on August 5th. I know the quality of your work is excellent.

Mike Cox | 2 comments Actually, I hadn't intended to write a two-volume history, though I'm glad now it worked out that way. I wrote one very long manuscript, and after reading it and deciding he liked it, Forge editor Bob Gleason said he wanted to break it into two books. I'm particularly happy with that because it gave me more time to work on volume 2, which I'm doing today even as I take a break to post this.

Volume 2, still to be titled, will be out in '09.

As for the first part of the question, for years I have wanted to write what I hope will be the definitive history of the Texas Rangers. Judging by reviews so far, and sales, I'm hoping I have succeeded.

Best, Mike
