Because it is so hard to pick a favorite book, what are your top five? Why?

Angie | 9 comments It's hard for me to pick my top five ! Today's top five for me are :
1) Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane - I was never a fan of mystery , until I read this book . I loved the "possibility" of this deep , dark story .
2) The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb - I am a Wally fan and this is by far his best work .
3) The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - All I can say is " WOW " . This story also introduced me to my love of audiobooks .
4) Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen - The story is so interesting , the writing is fabulous , the characters are lovable and spot on and the lesson this book reminds us of about dignity and respect of the eldery is tops !
5) Step Wars : Overcoming The Perils and Making Peace in Adult StepFamilies by Grace Gabe - This book is tops on this subject , the info was so valuable at just the right time .

Check back tomorrow , my list may change with the day ! After all Beka , I only have 46 books on my 5 star list ;-)

I know what you mean, Angie! My list changes depending on my mood. And today's top five are...(drumroll, please)

1. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones-- This tops my favorite movie list too. It is considered a young adult book, but that doesn't mean it isn't filled with rich characters and storylines! It is a fantasy novel, but it blends reality with fantasy really well. I can't get enough of this one!

2. Anything by Neil Gaiman-- I can't choose just one! Neverwhere, The Graveyard Book, American Gods, Sandman, Marvel 1602-- they are all amazing! Whether it is graphic novels, traditional novels, or short stories, Neil Gaiman knows where it's at!

3. Idlewild Trilogy by Nick Sagan-- A fun SciFi tale. It was one of those books that made me mad when I was done, but only because the story was finished!

4. The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor-- This book is very short, and it has been years since I read it. Despite that, I still find myself thinking about it from time to time. When a book leaves an impression like that, it is hard not to love it!

5. Atonement by Ian McEwan and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger-- A tie for 5th place! These are both similar stories but are so radically different at the same time. I can't help but love these love stories!

Matt (talons27) | 4 comments 1. East of Eden by John Steinbeck--I almost found the meaning of life in this book
2. The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan--The 2nd book in a long series, this is my favorite due to the epic fights involving the young hero
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows--Incredible that the quality of the writing has room to leap this high for the final installment.
4. Hikaru No Go by Yumi Hotta--My favorite manga series follows a boy growing up and playing Go.
5. The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum--One of the best action/spy thrillers you will find.

I made my list a year ago. Most of my favorites still stand, but I think I have to add Water for Elephants. And I am re-reading The Story of Lucy Gault now. I forgot I had added it to my favorites list, but I do love the book. Funny how that works. :)
