Since most of you are already reading it, here you go. Just remember to mention the book you're referring to at the beginning of the post, and if you're saying something about the plot you add spoiler. Also, if you're in the middle of the book tell us what page you're on next to the word spoiler [***Spoiler*** (p.20):]. I'd love if you guys stopped every 50-100 pages to post your thoughts as you go. It makes the discussions more specific and gives us more to talk about.
I really liked these I was completely hooked after book 2 and I have book 4 on my shelf in my room to get to shortly
Ah, I was wondering where this thread was when I was reading it. I already finished it though. So far I have only read the first book, but I really liked it. It was kind of bogged down by the telling of some of the characters backgrounds and fae mythology, but that seems to be the norm with first books in UF.
***SPOILERS for entire book***
I liked the female protagonist, but could have used less description about her nails and makeup. I get that it is her personality, but really, in life or death situations I don't need to know she broke 3 nails.
I was wondering about Barrons throughout the whole book. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? I know there is a lot more that we need to find out about him. But even though he comes across has harsh, I think he cares a lot more than he lets on.
So, I wonder what is up with her sisters boyfriend? Things are kind of wacky there. I'm not sure what to make of it. For a long time I thought her sister wasn't really dead, but they keep bringing up how Mac and her parents saw her body. I am not sure her boyfriend killed her though.
Not really a spoiler I don't think...Carrie,
Mac's personality made me almost quit reading the book. I couldn't stand her in book 1.
That said, she morphs into someone completely different over the next few books. I'm pretty sure that the author made Mac shallow like that on purpose to emphasize her transformation.

That is very true. I can't wait for the last one. Although I am torn about it as I want to know how it all end, but I like the characters and don't want it to end.
I didn't want to post it since we were going to be doing a month read on it. I was trying to stall, but too many of you started early so I caved.
I think a lot of us started it already because it was offered free at Amazon and B&N. At least that is why I started it. I had heard so much about it (the series in general) in the UF group that when I found out it was a free download I jumped on it!
I'm not sure. I have the kindle one if you want it. It was free anyway. I ended up downloading the epub from B&N after I got the Nook, so I have both now.
That still baffles me that it didn't work. I don't think I'll new buying books from amazon unless I can't get them anywhere else. I want to know that they will work 10years down the road with new readers and tech. Oh, Heather, I think the authors name is Moning. Yeah it is, I just looked above on the cover.
K. I'll change it. Thanks. It's just in the wrong format. I bet I could reformat it, but I'm not bored enough to spend my time doing that.
I've read books 1 and 2, and will hopefully pick up 3 and 4 today at the library. I agree with the assessments of Mac. She is annoying, but I already see improvement in her from Darkfever to Bloodfever.
Carrie-I don't think we'll get answers on Barrons anytime soon. I like it though. He seems like a good guy, but I know there's so much more to him that we don't know yet and I am throughly intrigued. ;)
I finished
and I enjoyed learning about the whole Fae mythology. Is this the general mythology though or just the author's own? I kinda enjoy the whole Oberon & Titania mythology of my Enid Blyton-influenced childhood but I like exploring new worlds and open to other points-of-view. I just don't like being confused if I read a different Fae-themed book.
Oberon is from Shakespeare. Midsummer's Night Dream.
Each book uses the myths differently. Authors pick and choose what they want to use in their worlds and what they want to ignore. Wings was a really cute series and they mention the Oberon tale. It's YA. I haven't read this one yet so I don't know if the fae are kind of mean in this one or not... I'll be getting to it in a few days.

Yes, Oberon is from Shakespeare but Enid Blyton used the same mythology in his children's books. I didn't read Shakespeare when I was 7 years old.
Sorry, I didn't read the whole post because a pet sidetracked me and then I responded without re-reading. I feel like I have children. The sad thing is, I know children demand MUCH MUCH more than my farm of monsters.
The fae are mean in this series, VERY unlike in Wings. I've read several fae-themed books and they all seem to take different spins. I haven't really found a common history/theme that ties them all together.
Ask 3 times, glamor, oaths are taken seriously, and twisting truths seems to be the most common similarities I've come across.
I stopped at the beginning of
I love the series but I didn't want to run into the cliffhanger so I'm waiting for the next book to come out.
Oh, a few that I've read have had a rule where if you ask the same question 3 times they have to respond. I think that was with fairies... now I'm doubting myself.
I think that is right. I also remember something about not saying something 3 times or it has to be done? Maybe I am thinking of something else too.
Oh, I have never heard that. But then again I've only ever read the Need books and The Iron Fey so I'm no expert. =] If I were a fae I'd be really annoyed by that rule. . .
lol, well if you do remember be sure to let us know. :) I'd love to look at the book series where that is in so I can see how the fae deal with that rule.
It was bugging me so I googled it. A bunch of things come up with the number three. As far as particular books, the only one I could find is the Dresden series. It is mentioned that all fae are bound by what they say three time, and if you call them tree time they have to appear. I know it is other books because I have only read the first two Dresden Files and I know I'm not thinking of them.
The only one's I've read have been Wicked Lovely, Need, Meredith Gentry, and Tithe. Although the amount of short stories I've read and can't remember... Eek. For some reason I feel like it had to been MG or Tithe. But I don't know. Too many books in between.
If you are looking for other books that are pretty good with the fae in it check out Mark Del Franco, he has a couple of series with the fae.
Heather wrote: "Ask 3 times, glamor, oaths are taken seriously, and twisting truths seems to be the most common similarities I've come across."That's true. I've come across the glamour and oaths things. I've also come across where faeries can't lie and are adverse to iron. I have read quite of few...
Tithe
Ironside
Wings
Spells
Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception
Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie
Wicked Lovely-the whole series
Need
Captivate
Impossible
How to Ditch Your Fairy
Looking back, I guess I have seen quite a few similiarities...
I'm on the fourth one(about a quarter of the way through) and IMO they just keep getting better. Mac matures a lot, which was essential for me to continue reading.
You guys can comment on the other one's here too, just remember to put the name of the book next to the word spoiler if you giving any details away.
I have about 50 pages left in Darkfever and I'm realizing that I shouldn't have read this at night. Now I need to watch TV or something to avoid nightmares.
The books didn't feel creepy/scary to me. Maybe because Mac seems to have little to no fear when dealing with her surroundings and just wades right into everything, guns blazing so to speak. If her scenario was happening to me in real life, there's no way I'd be going outside after dark, even with a MacHalo. Because Mac seems able to "handle" it with few reservations most of the time, it doesn't have that same level of scariness to me.
I really like these stories and I arges with Stacia I don't find them scary. The monsters are a bit creepy but they don't bother me like somethings.
I've just had bad dreams for a week now and I don't know what's causing them. I figured the whole creepy things in the dark wouldn't help.
I'm sure they don't help.My bad dreams are generally like family dying and that so I'm glad I haven't been having any!
Hope your bad dream stint is over soon
I get bad dreams or night terrors if I eat late at night. I think that is the link anyway, I'm not sure. I started the second book, but I haven't had much reading time lately.
***SPOILER*** for first book
Why does Mac assume Barrons is like her? Its pretty obvious he isn't. He is something though. Maybe has some fae in him, maybe something else...
Jess wrote: "Dreamfever gave me nightmares."Oh, definitely!! I took out my contacts and was actually spooked to walk to the bedroom. Thanks! I never get like that.
In the last week I've been running to find a safe place before a tornado hit, shot several times, had someone in the hospital (unknown someone). I think the tornado has to do with a TV show, the being shot at probably had to do with Mockingjay and the person in the hospital was probably from Perfect Chemistry. It's the first time I've had bead dreams from a book in 10 years and it's like they keep coming. I'm not sure what's setting them off at the moment. Oh well...
