For this task, would it be acceptable to read a book written by TWO different authors who both appear on the literature map? Both Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman came up on my literature map, but a good chunk of their books are written together.
Would it be ok to read an author I have heard of (Guy Gavriel Kay came up very close to Raymond Feist after I put him in) but have never read before and therefore am not terribly familiar with his writing?

it's fine if you've heard of him. The idea is to read someone you haven't read before - I'll be very curious to see if I like the author who's new to me as much as I like whichever author I put in.

YES! I put in Debbie Macomber and Janet Evanovich came up. Gives me a good excuse to start her Stephanie Plum series!
hahahaha, that was lucky. I put in Mercedes Lackey and Terry Brooks came up and I have some books by him lying around here.
I put in Nora Roberts...the only name that I hadn't read was Rachel Gibson..but i've heard good things about her

You know, you can also go to a secondary level with this - if you click on one of the names that comes up on the literature map, you get another literature map for that author.

OK, this is totally fun! I put in Jennifer Crusie (who I only recently discovered) and while I knew almost all of the authors who came up, the CLOSEST author (literally overlapping), was one I had never heard of. And my library has several novels by her! Score! (it was Rachel Gibson, btw.)
i'd thought about that...but I've also been rec'd Rachel Gibson before so it works out!Sandy wrote: "Kristi (Passion for the Page) wrote: "Delicious Dee the book slut wrote: "I put in Nora Roberts...the only name that I hadn't read was Rachel Gibson..but i've heard good things about her"

Hey, I just read the whole thread. Apparently literature map LOVES Rachel Gibson, since we both got her, Dee!
I did Lackey, too, but instead of Brooks, I went to Patricia McKillip. Winter Rose looks interesting.

lol...apparently...she falls into the contemp romance and comedic type stuff so that could explain whyAshley FL wrote: "Hey, I just read the whole thread. Apparently literature map LOVES Rachel Gibson, since we both got her, Dee!"
HAHA, I have read Rachel Gibson so after reading this thread I decided to use her! I got Donna Andrews who I haven't read yet, but was going to use for Cheryl's Task so I am going to use her first book in the series for this task and later ones for Cheryl's.
Ok so I wanted to do the Stephanie Plum series for this challenge (which I have never read anything by Evanovich before). However, I wanted to put the first in the series into 30.8, would this task have to be the first book I have read by that author period or just the first before this challenge. For instance, I wanted to read Book #1 for 30.8, Book #2 for 10.6?, and Book #3 for this task. Would that work?

If Evanovich was new to you this challenge when she came up on the literature map, it's okay if you work her books around the various tasks like this.

It's a good question. It has come up for me a couple times in past challenges when a task requires an author I haven't read before, and I want to put my first book by that new author into a different task.
I hadn't really thought about in the context of this task, so I'm glad you asked.

Go to Literature Map and type in an author. Read a book by another author new to you who comes up on the literature map.
OPTIONAL: Tell us which author you first entered and whether you thought the literature map did a good job of picking another author you'd like.
