5.5 - Take Me Out to the Ball Game
Yes -- These books would fit this task:The Third Circle by Amanda Quick -- for 3rd base
Ninth Grade Slays by Heather Brewer -- for the 9th inning
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini -- runner
Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut -- player
The Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf -- out
Call the Devil by His Oldest Name by Sallie Bissell -- an umpire's call
Other baseball words that would work
No -- These books do not fit this task:The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult -- 10th and higher won't work
Family Ties by Danielle Steel -- ties won't work
Sheila wrote: "Third Circle by Amanda Quick? As in Derrick Lee is on Third?"
Yes, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd work for the number of bases.
Coralie wrote: "If play and player are suitable words, is playing also suitable?"Yes, playing works too.
Kristi, what about the 4th through 9th in terms of innings? When I think of baseball I always think about the seventh inning stretch. Thanks.
Rebecca wrote: "Kristi, what about the 4th through 9th in terms of innings? When I think of baseball I always think about the seventh inning stretch. Thanks."Oops, good point (obviously not a baseball fan here ;o)). So, yes, there are 9 innings so up to 9th works.
Tanja wrote: "Would runner work? Such as there's a runner on 1st?The Kite Runner. Woohoo! Works!"
Great book, too ;o).
Kathy G. wrote: "Will Family Ties by Danielle Steel work?"I assume you're thinking about the word "ties." Can you explain how it would be used in relation to a baseball game?
Kathy G. wrote: "Don't teams have ties sometimes? I'm not much into baseball."
No, not in baseball. They just keep playing and playing and playing............it can get pretty funny, when they run out of pitchers and have to use random other players.

That works.
I think I'm going to use this task to finally read Blockade Billy since it's barely over 100 pages and this is a 5 point task.
How about In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson? I know it is YA but it is a 5 point task. I have wanted to read this for ages.
Barbara wrote: "How about In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson? I know it is YA but it is a 5 point task. I have wanted to read this for ages."Sure. It's about baseball and over 100 pages. So go for it!
What about "deep" as in: "deep in the count" (listed in the glossary above) or "deep center field"? It would be fore In Too Deep
Jessica Bpv wrote: "Fever Pitch?? It's not about baseball but 'pitch' would do, i guess...?"That works.
Ashley FL wrote: "What about "deep" as in: "deep in the count" (listed in the glossary above) or "deep center field"? It would be fore In Too Deep"That works, too.
Coralie wrote: "I assume 'diamond' would be an acceptable word."Certainly would. Ooohh... I bet I have some books on my list that might fit that. I didn't even think to check! *off to rummage around Mt. TBR, again*
Meghan - 5.9 if you read 100 pages in public, it counts! 15.1 it's a blue cover (BLUE) and NEW (if you haven't read other Weyn books!) 15.9 does the main char describe you or reflect you in ways?
I was going to do 15.9 but didn't have another one. Oh well! Trying to finish the 50 pointer and then onto the fall task
The Monster in the Box: An Inspector Wexford NovelIs this OK
We don't have baseball in the UK so I just want to be sure!

Yes. That works.
I think I have a double good one The Nine Giants, as it has nine--as in nine positions and nine innings -- and Giants--as in the name of the team.

The World Series takes place in October. Read a book about baseball OR a book with a baseball related word in the title (hit, run, out, safe, home, base, player, single, double, triple, play, ball, game, etc.). (EXAMPLES: The Boys of Summer, Home Safe: A Novel, Hit and Run, etc.)
If you need suggestions OR have suggestions for books to read for this task, please post them here.
