I second that! Isabelle is irritating as hell! John is mind numbingly dull and boring - I was so cross with his leaving Catherine stranded with noone to dance with at the Ball and then she had to turn down Henry because of him - such a shame!

Isabelle is the one biggest fake's ever.John reminds me of a modern guy who can only talk about his car,his muscles and how hot he is.I agree with Soph Mrs.Allen is funny. She puts more thought in to one gown then I think she does anything esle.
yes John is exactly like, and who swears a lot - bit stronger than d- now a days though i would think... unfortunatley...
My favourite secondary character is Eleanor, aww, she is such a sweetheart. I like the relationship between herself and Henry. They look out for each other.
General Tilney was rather frightening to be honest..in short I think that the Tilneys except for Henry's sister and Henry were truly frightening and quite menacing.
I like Eleanor - she's lovely... I disliked John Thorpe, but I think Isabella was perhaps mis-guided and silly - I don't like her but I pity her.
I love Eleanor as well! and General Tilney is scary!
Frederic just needed a mother for longer I think and was led off the rails (I think my more favourable opinion of him comes from reading Henry Tilney's diary)
the thorpes were annoying! John was just ... no words!
and Isabella... i see your point about being like Lydia, but i also think she was a little more schemeing than Lydia, so i pity her a little, but not much! and her behaviour to Cathy's brother was appauling!

I don't think Isabella is like Lydia. They share similarities but in essentials I think they are antagonistic. On the one side, Lydia is a sentimental and silly girl who wants to get married without thinking about how to live afterwards, driven by her feelings. On the other side, Isabella is not silly, she manipualtes people to marry a wealthy man to be able to live well, but she does not take into account her own feelings and the feelings of others in the process. That is why, I believe, Lydia is married at the end and Bella is not. I think Isabella is more like Caroline Bingley.
I think Isabella was the worst, because as of the beginning of the novel I had great hopes for her, so she disappointed me the most. And I think she ended up being even more selfish than Caroline Bingley - Caroline could at lest give way to what is right at her expense some of the time - but Isabella never can.John Thorpe was always a prat, but I think the worst moment is when he doesn't stop the carriage for Catherine to see the Tilneys.
Eleanor is a darling girl, and General Thorpe... was a surprise for me, actually! I knew there was something going on I just didn't know what.
Isabella was such a gold digger and she was awful and i am glad James got away from her! She is so much worse than Caroline. At least Caroline didn't do false friendship!
John Thorpe - nothing to say!
And General Tilney... I couldn't figure out what was going on either but I enjoyed the story! Espcially Henry standing up for himself and going against his father!

Isabella was far more of a disappointment. I am glad James didn't end up with her, though it sucks she caused him so much pain.Honestly, if you looked up "prat" in the dictionary is should say "see John Thorpe".
I really respect Henry for not being super-angry with Catherine for thinking what she did about his father, and then standing up to his father once he found out something had been going on, just not what Catherine thought.
I actually quite liked General Tilney to begin with... but he kind of got exponentially more scary...
