Dirtpelt woke up and walked out of the warrior's den, "Morning Dovestar," he greeted.

Dovestar sat in the clearing. "Morning." She sighed. The death of her father, Duststar, hit her like a thorn. She felt nothing but sorrow.

Dirtpelt walked over to Dovestar, "Still upset about your father huh?" he wrapped his tail around her.

Dovestar nodded. Her white fur was matted, she hasn't cleaned it since her father died. "I'm gonna miss him." She looked at Dirtpelt. "I need a deputy." She sighed. "Will you be my deputy."

Dirtpelt's pupils got small, "Me?" he yowled.

Dovestar nodded. "Of course." She purred. "Your the best warrior here." She smiled.

Dirtpelt looked at her and smiled,"Sure."

Dovestar pounced onto highrock. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, join here beneath the highrock for a clan meating." She yowled using her father's calling.

"I wish starclan to look down on this warrior and grant him the will of being deputy." She purred to the stars. "I Dovestar grant him this wish and grant him this honor to be my deputy." She threw her head up and yowled to the stars. "Dirtpelt! Of Dustclan become the deputy." She looked to the stars and saw the outline of her father nodd.

Dirtpelt stood tall. He felt proud to be a strong warrior and to be the next leader.

Dovestar nodded and walked down the rock.

Dirtpelt walked over to Dovestar,"I wanted to tell you something from when we were apprentices," he hesitated.

Dovestar nodded. "Yes?"

"Well it's just, I had a crush on you that then turned into loving you so in other words, I love you," Dirtpelt sighed.

Dovestar nodded. "I love you to."

"Really?" Dirtpelt looked surprised.

Dovestar nodded. "Who wouldn't." She looked at him. "You are really nice, smart, and brave." She smiled. She licked her paw to give herself her monthly grooming.

"Well I don't know," Dirtpelt laughed.

Dovestar licked his nose.

Dirtpelt licked her ear and wrapped his tail around her.

Dovestar leaned against him and purred.

Dirtpelt purred back and layed his head softly on hers.

Dovestar fell asleep in the clearing.

Dirtpelt fell asleep next to her.

The sun rose. A light snowfall fell down.

A patrol walked in. "Doevstar! Nightclan has been scented everywhere we must ayyack."

Dovestar nodded. "Let's go."
