Sarah (songgirl7) I never got the Hellboy thing. It isn't one I ever got into. I like the older, all-American, wholesome comics of the 40s and 50s.

I have a first edition of the first ever Action Comics #1, where my man Superman made his first appearance.

Lori You bitch! I am frothing from the sin of coveting.

How'd you get that?

I used to have that, and the original Batman - quite a comic collection, but when my parents finally moved they threw them all away! My retirement.

Sarah (songgirl7) I'm with you guys on Dark Knight.

Lori, my husband bought me the Superman comic. It's never been opened.

Jackie "the Librarian" One Hundred Demons by Lynda Barry

Bone: One Volume Edition by Jeff Smith

Black Hole by Charles Burns

Runaways by Brian Vaughan

I've read one volume of Sandman by Neil Gaiman, and stopped, for what that's worth...

Charissa (dakinigrl) Charm School is my favorite comic:

Jackie "the Librarian" Guess I'll have to look at that one when I'm back at home. Naughty naughty Charissa, with her banned websites!

message 8: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) Charm School is a wonderful tale of teenage love and lust set in Little Salem, a magical land where all kinds of traditional monsters live and enjoy each other's company.
In the first story arc, titled "Magical Witch Girl Bunny" we meet the three main characters: Bunny, a teenage girl studying to be a witch, Dean, her butch vampire girlfriend, and Fairer Than, an enigmatic faerie who plays with mortal hearts as kids with flies.

It's only a tiny bit naughty!

message 9: by Clackamas (new)

Clackamas The Preacher series from the mid-90's is one of my favorites.

Jackie "the Librarian" Lynda Barry rocks!

Hey, is anyone reading the new Buffy comic? I am, and I'm having a hard time with the slow pace.

Jackie "the Librarian" I never lose anything!

Except your camera...

message 12: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell And chess matches...

Jackie "the Librarian" That would drive me crazy, Sarah, to not be able to find that letter.
Did you put it in one of Lynda's books, maybe?

Jackie "the Librarian" I've been reading some manga, too, to keep up with the kids, you know.

I enjoyed Ranma 1/2 for a few volumes, but got tired of silly martial arts battles. The ice skating pairs battle was when I said "Enough!"

I am hooked on Fruits Basket which is totally girly and touchy feely.

I've also read a few volumes of InuYasha, which seemed to be fighting one villain after another, mainly.

And I've tried Vampire Knights, FullMetal Alchemist, Bleach, and the one with the girl with green hair, who is probably an alien...

Jackie "the Librarian" That's it! Yotsuba&! is the girl with green hair I was trying to think of.
Thanks, Sarah!!

Thorina | 1 comments Hi there-- I am new to this discussion group. I joined because I am interested in hearing more from fans of visual literature.... So I am just curious whether this group likes memoir in graphic novels? I just launched a book that I wrote and illustrated, called "The Heartbreak Diet" and it's a little bit different from.... For example the style is more painterly then are most graphic novels. I would love to get feedback from the group, if anyone has seen it feel free to contact me!

Jackie "the Librarian" Hey, do you guys like Too Much Coffee Man? I loooove Too Much Coffee Man...

Jackie "the Librarian" No, but I saw him in Austin back when he still lived there, and had him sign stuff for me. I used to read his strip in the Austin Chronicle, back in the day.
